Diesel `superchips`.

Post by cavmad »

If (when) I finally get the 1.9TD on the road I`ve sort of got to thinking a Superchip of some sort may be just what it needs.
I recall from such laughable magazines as Maxi Pants and Boy Racer weekly that the engine needs to be in good order to cope with the power gains and I`m quite confident it will be.
I`m also told by a reliable source that the cheapo things on eBay are apparantly nothing more than cobbled together central heating components available for pennies.
Is there a chip available for the TD Xantia/Pug engine, are they worth the money, will I see a decent power gain and are they reliable?
Anyone with any experience I`d love to hear from.

Chip the 1.9TD?????

WHY??? And indeed how? I didnt think it had a fueling ECU?

Advance the fuel pump, increase the boost, fiddle with the wastegate a bit (look ask Jon here, hes the one with the know how) - Cost pence if anything.

If indeed it does need a chip, there is a place in Chorley that is supposed to be good. Otherwise I have a Dragon Black Box on the Xantia which I can only describe as "Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow!"

Sorry Billy theres no ECU on your car so your cant 'chip' it.

HDI's can have interesting add-ons that boost power. My mate has got one and used to have it on his C5 2.0 HDI. It made a true difference. I think its a Van Aaken one.

Many thanks gents, more expert advice which was much appreciated. I`ll have a fiddle about when I get it roadworthy and see what I can do. Would a bigger intercooler help matter too?

If you are running on veg oil, that will help with the chips.

Won't it?
