Good afternoon Les and welcome to the forum from me. If you go to the front page of this site( www.bxclub.co.uk )without going to the forums you will see a link to the specialists. The nearest to you appears to be St Helens though obviously one of the members might know of someone closer to you.
You will find everyone on this site really friendly and helpful btw, you might find you can do any repairs yourself with their help. Hope you get your car back on the road soon.

Most garages try the "Is it really worth it, it is only a BX" ploy. This is because they are ignorant monkeys who couldn't repair a Citroen while they have holes in thier arses. The BX slogan was Loves Driving, Hates Garages. It is mutual; garages hate them back. They're not "normal", see?
Tell us what it needs and we'll help. The line has to be drawn at serious corrosion because there are lots of rust free cars out there that are cheaper than a welding bill but everything else is meccano. They are no worse than any other car to fix and a lot easier than some.

hi , thanks for the answers 8) , fortunatly there is no corrosion but the problem is , as the mot er put on his fail sheet...power steering component(s) leaking from a failed seal......i have recently changed the 4 front to rear hydraulic pipes, so im not shy of the car or work , but i want to get the power steering sorted proffesionally..although i can get a reconditioned rack for 35 + vat exchange from euro car parts, how easy/hard is the job of changing the rack???? cheers les

That is unlikely to be a power rack. If it is, grab it. I've just rebuilt one and the bits came to more than that. Changing it is a swine, Underneath and filthy.
It is doable though but you may need a T55 Torx bit to get the ram off. If the ram is weeping, then that is a doddle. just swap it out. Plenty of spares on this forum :D If it is from the pinion valve, a repair kit is about £20 but read the postings on how to do it first, 'cos many have tried but fewer have suceeded. Persevere with it though. Get a few quotes so you can brag about how much lolly you saved when the neighbours see you emerging, black and grimy from below!

REMANUFACT n/a 603545001 STEERING RACK BX POWER . £34.38
n/a 603545004 ** SURCHARGE ** £110.00

which initially totals £144.38

- this is the rack you need - if you want to replace it.

For Spheres try Westroen in Chorlton-cum-Hardy (dont laugh) on Nell Lane just a bit further up from Mauldeth House (oh happy memories when the NHS used this as their school of nursing).

Dave Ashworth in Blackpool is a good citroen bod, just a short jaunt up the M61, M6 then M55.
