Changing to a different type of gearbox....

Post by adamskibx »

I need to swap the gearbox of my car for the one from the donor car, but reverse gear is currently on the collar system next to first and on the donor car it was in the usual place. Does anyone know whether the linkages are any different between the two cars (my donor car has had to go), or will the linkages just fit etc.

Cheers, Adam

The linkages are slightley different (extra support bar), you'd need to change the whole linkage including the stick ideally since it would be easy to engage reverse instead of first without the collar. It's easy enough to do

Right- Does this mean that Reverse would still be in the same place then? Im unsure whether its the linkages that make the difference or the gearbox. I need to go from a gearbox that has reverse by first to one that has it where 6th would be on a 6 speed box (right and back). I probably didnt explain it very well as I think you thought I wanted to change from a gearbox that doesnt need the collar to one that does. Cheers, Adam

Its the gearbox that makes the difference - not the linkage.
Still the linkage is different for each type gearbox.
You MUST replace the linkage as well if you change to another gearbox type. They simply dont fit over the 2 g/b types.

You can not "move" the location of the reverse by replacing the linkage.

Sorry dude, got it the rong way round! If you'd said a couple of weeks back I had several linkages but alas they be in a skip somewhere now!
It's still easy to do though! Should be straightforward to find the correct linkage.
