Dead right Cav!
Someone else selling the same thing described its operation:
"[How does it work?
The module modifies any standard ECU by telling the ECU that the incoming air in the intake system is cold and so advances the ignition to compensate producing more power. In many cases fuel economy is increased too. Power is increased by up to +20BHP and torque is increased significantly.]"
Why would manufacturers introduce such temperature control if it could safely and effectively be removed as a cost saving?
Another gadget (more substancial) making claims on improving performance without being a chip:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-all-EFI-m ... dZViewItem
claims:
"[Fitting these valves has a very similar effect to having a 'Chip Upgrade' but without having to modify the electronics or ECU. These units are mechanical and are considered maintenance free.]"
Actually, reducing the fuel economy of the GTi in these times of high petrol prices is not on my wish list and would presumably be the biggest change you would notice.
