Wanted - Number Plate light unit

Post by MULLEY »

Decided to give the car a nice clean today, did some t-cutting as well & then noticed that the Number plate lights were almost black (shade of green?).

I should have known better & left them alone, but no, i'm rubbish at car maintenance & decided i should try & sort them, how difficult can it be.

1. Removed rubber outer thats attached the the plastic light unit.
2. Opened the almost secret (didnt realise they were there before)
compartment flap so that i could access the lights from inside the boot.
3. Gently pressed on the plastic side tabs of the light unit & eased them
out, 1st time in 16 years?
4. Pulled out the electrical connectors so that the dirty light units were
now free from the car.
5. Took the bulb & the metal electrical contacts out, again v-carefully.
6. Gave the light unit a good wash, came up looking newish.
7. Put the whole thing back togther again & connected back upto the
electric connectors. I was feeling chuffed with myself at this stage.
8. Disaster

Summary of disaster as follows;

Whilst pushing the light unit back into position, one of the feeble plastic side bits which holds the damn thing in place went "Click & ping", that little plastic bit has now vanished forever. I had bust the bleedin thing (couldnt fxxxing believe it) etc... you get the picture. Managed to fit the other one back ok, having learnt the hard way with the 1st one.

If anyone wishes to use the above as a guide please feel free to do so, no copyright will be infringed (perhaps a small donation via paypal?), but make sure you never reach point 8.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hope someone either gained some useful knowledge on citroen plastics or has learnt dont ever bother with trying to do this as its Citroen plastic we are talking here.

Anyway, has anyone got a spare one laying about, or will i have to order one? Thanks

where the piece of plastic was, wrap a big zip tie tight around the remaining bracket and that will keep it in place untill you get a replacement!

I've broken more of them than i care to think about, the heat of the bulb makes them brittle, best bet is to glue the bugger in!

Thanks BarnsleyBxer, that would be much appreciated. I have for the time being as i didnt want to glue it on, incase it ever needed to come out again, decided to use some luverly white bathroom caulk. This should be easier to remove than glue, i hope?

Ta..
