- My Cars: 90s/00s - lots of BX hatches/estates 16/19i/17td/19d
2020s - A shinier red TZD estate has replaced scruffy 19TXD "Red Shed". - x 10
How many BXs? I find it to be 7 altogether since 1992.
Driven
-------
1991-ish: Coverted to the breed by a shiny new red 16RS Pilot (company car for UK Sales manager of the company I worked for - which I borrowed or co-drove to/from exhibitions fairly often ). To the eternal chagrin of Finance director, a CX-owning member of staff persuaded him to buy this, and then later a 16TGS for the company. When the valve stem seals went on the Pilot, he offloaded it for a song to a trader, complaining loudly about how this would never have happened to a Ford, and the lousy resale value of Citroens, when he could have had it repaired and seen at least another 90k miles out of it for much less than the lease deal on the replacement.
Drove several 16 petrol models looking for a decent one. Bought one that wasn't decent (as I later discovered). Have also driven early 16 petrols (Mk 1s), Petrol19s, 14s, and a number of others, but never a plain 17D or a 16v.
Owned or co-owned
-----------------------
1992 - 98: Ivory 1988 16RS hatch (34k to 120ish-k)
1998 - 2003: 1988 White 16RS estate (94k to120ish-k )
2001 - not much longer: 1992 red 19TGD (100k-ish to 145k-ish)
2002:2002 - 1987 Metallic Red 19RD bought for spares - it covered a massive 1/2 mile in my ownership - all downhill.
2002 - 2003: 1993 Red 19TXD (bought with 240k on clock as a tide-over car while sorting out the TGD - did about 3k?). Rustiest BX I have ever owned.
2004-2004: 1992 White 19TZi estate (can't remember, but did a few thousand faster miles at considerably faster pace than I'd been accustomed to)
2004-?? 1990 Metallic Green 17TGD Turbo: (Approx 10k so far -hopefully many more).

Only 3
1989 BX 14 Preview. Absolute shed I should never have bought. Gave it away for scrap after 2 years and 15k miles.
1988 BX DTR Turbo hatch. Brilliant. Spent a load of cash getting it through and MOT, and then had to change the head gasket. Sold it for £250, but probably should have kept it. 70,000 happy miles over 4 years.
1991 BX TZD hatch. Only £600, bit rough around the edges, but it did 15,000 miles over 10 months. Sold for spares / repair.
My parents had an 84 BX 14E and an 88 16 RS. My Grandad had 2 19RD estates, both ex demo; an 85? C reg Mk1 and an 87 E reg Mk 2. My sister is still running the E reg one - it's only done about 70k, but has had extensive repiping, new rad, new clutch. No rear arm bearings yet though as far as I know!
Current Citroen family consists of: 93 Xantia 1.8 (Dad's), 02 Xsara Hdi (Mum's), 97 Xantai TD (mine) 94 ZX TD (the Wife's - a worthy BX sucessor: when I fix the rear subframe mounts!), 87 BX 19RD Estate (Sister 1), 94 ZX D (sister 2). Hiding in the garage 84 Visa Decap - with lots of holes.
No driving of non-Citroens in our family (Although my Dad's parents have got a Rover, but we can pass over that!)

BX History
I have only owned 2.
I have broken 5 or 6 others for parts over the years.
1st was a 1989 GTI 8V, bought it in 1994.
Did lots to it, and kept it till 2003 when I broke it for parts 60,000 miles later at 120,000.
The engine went into a Pug 205 rally car where it has been running very well.
2nd is 1992 BX16V, bought in 2001. Now with lots of new hoses and wiring.

BXs owned
Just the one, and that, only for just over a year. It's a 1990 TZi manual wagon with 246328 kms on the clock now. It had 225915 when I got it for $4,600 (Aus dollars) in July 2004
Never been game enough to actually buy a Citroen B4, although, have always wanted to and come close a few times. A few D specials, one GS 1220 wagon and a DS23 pallas - but chickened every time - that suspension scared me, back then.
$4,600 seemed to good to pass up for a fairly rare wagon (according to someone on Froggy Forum only 100 wagons or so were brought to Australia, but don't know how accurate that is.
....and just to bore you all totally! . . . I have kept a record of fuel since getting the car and it seems that since then the BX has travelled 12676 miles and used 2002 litres of premium grade fuel at a total cost of $2249:47 which, I believe, works out around 28.82?? MPG or 9.98 Litres to the 100 kms
Total repair and upkeep is around $2,000

I've owned five - all GTIs and all cheap to start with....
All but one came from the same original Citroen dealership: West Heath Garage Farnborough, despite the fact they were all bought from different parts of the country. What are the chances of that happening?

I forgot I also once briefly owned a red 1.9 petrol hatchback. Can`t remember what model (though not a GT/GTi) but it went like a bat out of hell. Until returning from holiday in it (Blackpool of course) and giving it the thrashing of a lifetime and the big ends starting going 3 miles from home. Took all the good tyres off it plus some other small bits and drove it through the auctions at walking pace so the rattle couldn`t be heard. Someone actually bought it £75 (I think)-oh, how I laughed.
Vauxhall apologist.
WEST HEATH GARAGE
My first ever BX came from there too!
God know how it ended up in leicester. White 16TZS, firts car I ever bought on finance (was 22 and just discovered the wonderful world of credit!). Only kept it 11 months after it kept going wrong, traded it in for a new Saxo and regretted it ever since.

1982 Citroen GSA Spécial Estate - gone to a new home
1991 Citroen BX16 TGS Meteor - still out there somewhere!
Just the one...
My dark grey BX16 Meteor, J580 PTF, bought in February 2004 for £200 cash off a roadside in Farnborough, Hants, as a "stopgap" car while my GSA was in the workshop having new floors and rear subframe done... I did a fair few miles in it: it took me on a trip up to Scotland, and several trips to Manchester and back, and one mega trip from Manchester to King's Lynn via Barnsley where I stopped over at me Dad's.
I've still got it, but it's been off the road for maybe nearly a year now and its no longer MOTed or taxed...
Mark.
