Another one on the road for a year..

Having just been for a service and m.o.t.
It needed front discs and pads and two front spheres. I new the spheres were getting hard so was expecting that. Sailed through on emissions the tester said its one of the lowest he has had for a car this age. Drives like new again….

Well done!!! Gives me hope for my TGE, its only done 84,000 at the moment!! :lol:

My citroen man said he does about 4 bx's in our area. He said the engine on mine is sound and is still "as sweet as a nut", and the bodywork is "sound". He did pull me up on the chanels that run down the top of the wings were the bonet sits as i havent polished them this year :oops: will have to do beter next time... :lol:

:lol: ..Sounds like its being really well cared for :D Mine's currently off the road having a little overhauling.

TU's are easily the easiest engines to own. It'll go on for as long as you want it to. If anything plays up it'll be the carb though, the rest is fairly bomb proof.

TU is the model of engine fitted to you cars mate, whichs is different to the others being the XU 1.6/1.9/1.9i (petrol) and the XUD (diesel) 1.7/1.9/1.7TD and XUJ (16v)

Actually Tim XUJ isn't a code. The "J" means injection and comes after the designated number which means the engine size.

The BX had the suitcase XY engine up until mid 1987, then the TU series. The 1.4 is a TU3, any other letters following stand for the source of fuelling etc. K1G is the specific designation of that engine code.

Eg: XU9J4 (16v engine)

XU: engine series

9: 1905cc

J: Injection (sometimes listed as JP)

4: Four valves per cylinder. (some codes have a 2 meaning 8valves, but most don't list a number unless its a twin cam)

With regards to the three digit code (like K1G) the 16v's have two for example. D6C and DFW. Both are XU9J4 engines, but the D6C is the 160bhp non cat version and the DFW the 148bhp catted version.

Or 1.9 8v....XU9J2/A

XU: engine series

9: 1905cc

J: Injection

2 or A: Two valves per cylinder




Or 1.8TD engine (XUD7TE)

XUD: Engine series

7: 1769cc

TE: Turbo Intercooled


So XUD9TE is the 1.9 version, XUD11TE is the 2.1 version etc. XUD9 would be an n/a 1.9 diesel.

TU engines are the same:

TU3M/Z

TU: engine series

3: 1360cc

M or Z: Carb spec.


Easy when you're a geek who's worked at ECP for ages and has to identify engines as the customers can't :lol:

Cosworth 3 litre Grand Prix engine was DFV - double four valve. Wonder where DFW came from!
