Electric Mirror vs Manual on TZD

One more question on above topic - as most (if not all) TZDs and other non-16V models (at least here in OZ) only had an electric mirror on the passenger's side and the manual one on the drivers' - can the drivers mirror be replaced with an electric one easily. i.e. is the wiring already in the door and it's only a matter of installing the mirror and connecting it up, or is the wiring harness for it missing totally? Anyone done this or know?
I have the electric mirrors off my 16V parts car and figured I should put the drivers one to use...

AFAIK yes this can be done and the wiring is already fitted to the car.

In the UK also it was only 16v models (1990 onwards) that had electric mirros on both sides.

All my GTi 8v have had electric mirrors.

This goes back 3 cars to E reg.

Pleased to confirm that my 1990 8v Gti has leccy mirrors on both sides. Not sure why they bothered though as the switch gear feels as solid as blancmange, thats more likely to go wrong than the mirrors. But i guess everything electric in those days was considered high spec....

No idea about fitting leccy ones to where manual ones were....

my tzs had electric passenger and manual driver, I have fitted an electric driverside but the wiring was there but when i connected it i found that both mirrors moved at the same time so i had to change the switch as some are not wired up for indipendant mirror operation inside and i also had to lay a new loom in for the driverside so it would work independant of the passengerside.

Confirmed, could be more trouble than it's worth.

Ok thanks folks - I've got multiple switches lying around (from dual electric mirror cars) but don't fancy rewiring the drivers' side on to get it to work - so will leave the manual one as is for now
