I think anything that leaks oil is potentially a problem, but I reckon the car could be made into a really nice example. The raw material seems to be there. Or maybe not? shame it's not auto - I could be tempted...

He probably means the leak is so insignificant that the oil never needs topping up between services, and during a service it gets chucked anyway. That wouldnt concern me. It looks like an absolute cracker. If I didnt already have a BX id have a bid on that.

Sounds like oil running down from somewhere and off the sump - remember this guy has a 'Place of work' and his phrasing is a bit wierd.

I asked the guy about the suspension & what kind of money he was looking for:

the reserve price is a lot higher, due to the condition of the car, i will not let this vehicle go for less than the reserve, thanks for asking, anything else you would like know pleas ask, or you can have the tel no.

I sent him a question too, (about rust/bodywork mainly) but also as the ad states it is advertised elsewhere I simply asked 'for how much?' - see if it's true

Its another K***'VPD' car like my TZD.

Thats the 3rd VPD i've seen for sale this year if you include mine!

They all came from Traffic Garages in Epsom.

Any decent TZD is worth its weight in GOLD.

Just got an extensive reply: (but not an indication of price):

I asked:

Is there any appreciable rust?
For instance rear end of sills where they join the rear arch, inner
wings and in boot floor corners? Is the bonnet steel or more
usual composite? Does the car have any water leaks (i.e. are the
sunroof drain holes clear?). Has it been smoked in? Oh, and as
you say it's advertised elsewhere - for how much?

And the reply:

hi, thanks for the question phill, i can not see any rust on this vehicle, apart from approx a 2inch scrape on the drivers side rear panel where i caught the garage door but ihave paint for this ,but the rest of the car is in excellent condition. the car has no water leaks and the bonnet is composite, i do not know where the sunroof drain holes are all i do is lubricate the sunroof runners, all you citroen owners seem very helpfull phil, i have been looking at the citroen bx website phil and a lot of the questions re bx faults my vehicle does not seem to have these faults, i would be very gratefull if you could help me with answers re these vehicles phil, the reason for the very reluctant sale of this car is i boughtthis vehicle to travel a round trip of 52 miles daily to the ambulance station, where they moved me from ch/le/street to bishop auckland i was not prepared to take my sl280 in case of any damage that may occur while parking, this car was for sale near a friend of mine, the guy works for reg vardy and the vehicle was impeccable, mechanically and bodywork, i paid well over usual bx money and he did tell me this, but he said there is a lot of crap bxs about and he would not drop the price, he has since regretted selling it // it has paid off as this car has been superb, i must stress that i am no good at car serviceing phil and rely totaly on my garage mechanic who service my cars, when i first got this he said he had not seen a 13 year old vehicle so good condition underneath and when he changed the rear discs he said there is a bolt which normally breaks but on my car it was all molyslipped and came out no bother, (you will understand that more than me}I have bought the wife a citroen pluriel as she loves being a passenger in the bx but did not like driving the bx.Sorry for rattling on phil, if you email me back i will take pics of the boot etc as at the moment i am suffering from the festive spirit,if there is any points you want to ask please ask.

Lengthy, but I'd say reassuring...

this car will be well worth buying. OK, it might need the usual BX major mid-life crisis service but mine needed that after only 32k.

I'm sure this car will go on to provide many years of service to its lucky new owner.

So it has a tacho fault, ABS don't work, it leaks somewhere, the central locking needs work and the heater fan doesn't work. Yet still he wants top money for it! These are of course the faults we know about. I'm always cautious about a car that is only described but just because it is a TZD, doesn't mean that we have to get all silly about it! These things are a morning's work for me but that is an expensive jobs list to a non-tech.

Well, with reserve set at 8-[ £450 it's not unreasonable. Let 'the market' decide.
