I know its not a BX but i would hate to see it meet its fate on the banger racing track when good ones are fetching £5000 in good nick!

They are spectacular Rovers. There must be someone out 'there' in the 'Classic Car' fraternity who'd take it on. Won't be easy though, I would guess.

I agree - what a plonker the seller is, no idea.

Hope he only gets a quid for it.

I had one in white 2 years ago which I sold for over £4000, there getting rare now as so many have been banger raced over the years, I wonder if the guy whos selling knows the value of it to advertise it this way, wither that or hes just a idiot with no love of old cars.

The picture of his truck gave it away Tim. Everyone I know who has a truck with a hiab is either a banger racer or a scrap dealer.
Take a look at the pictures, this is a car breakers of some description and my guess (and it`s only a guess) is that if it doesn`t meet about £75 it will be crushed for the weigh in price.
Pure speculation but as he`s adamant there`s no V5 at all I wonder if this was declared as scrap by a previous owner who didn`t want it anymore? That being the case reapplication of the V5 won`t be easy and it`ll meet a sticky end.
I wouldn`t want to restore it even if I had the skills/time/money unless I applied for, and received, the V5 first: no point in spending all these things on it to find you can`t get a V5. The very way he`s mentioned no V5 will probably put most restorers off unfortunately.
Waste of a cracking car imho.

Another example of what must be one of the world's worst cars! Sorry I suppose it was beaten by its 3 litre predecessor.

My father suffered from 3 of these things which all rusted through at a very early stage. They were bad riding (yes its true - usual British designed after lunch leaf suspension - and negligible travel on the front) and were really very poor cars when compared to the (cheaper sometimes) Jaguars.

Handling and grip were poor as well - and there are many cases of these turning round for no real reason (Killed Princess Grace of Monaco). It happened to my parents in theirs - so I know it wasn't going fast - and I know of al least 2 others, one resulting in a serious injury from the metal interior mirror that was exempt from the safety regs applied to other cars.

Reliability was apalling too - just about every month for 9 years something would fail - and seldom was it cheap. Father was amazed just how cheap his Stag was to run after he got rid of the last one.

As a curiosity and example of why we lost the car industry - yes I suppose it has some value - but as an example of excellence - NO WAY.

I owned one for over a year Jeremy, they are what they are a 50 year old car, but in V8 form, fast, smooth and in my opinion a very comfy car.

The P5 is regarded as one of britains best cars of the last 50 years in most classic cars fraternitys!

I should point out that princess grace had a stroke at the wheel which is what caused the accident, and it wasnt a P5 she was driving.

Thank you for the timely correction, Tim. By the standards of their time they were a very good car I have fond memories of a P5 Which was as enjoyable as it was thirsty After Minis and a Landcrab, it was my first big car and its quality was lovely but it was a shame about the rust!

Tom I quite agree they rusted as bad as most of the cars of there time, my point is that is this one has lasted 36 years it deserves a loving home, from the pictures (I know they can be deceptive) its looks fairly tidy.

Ruddy numpty, thats a lovely car...I need more money and a big field! There used to be a big red one in our village in Somerset, I always looked and stared as it went past...I really hope it's saved but I have to echo Billys comments about the V5 :(

I don`t remember hearing anything bad about them and always fancied one myself. Always fancied a Landcrab too, my dad had a few Maxis and an Austin 3-Litre but never the Landcrab.
Talking of which (sort of!) if anyone spots a 3-Litre for sale at a sesnible price then please let me know.
Love to see this Rover saved, anyone from here fancy taking it on?
