Gaz, couple of things mate: firstly I`d remove your phone number from the message in case any spamming tw*ts pick it up and secondly I have a TZD gearbox here.

You have in fact damaged the differential output shaft and scored the housing - which may be sound on otherwise broken Turbo-diesel gearboxes.

The TD has a unique set of ratios - and final drive ratios. I think you'll find the broken bit on yours attaches to the sun wheel in the differential unit - and it may be possible to change this alone. This however may need to be set up and shimmed to avoid noise - and I don't think the instructions are in Haynes.
