She does feel really bad about it but to be fair it shouldnt have used over 3 litres of oil in 2000 miles.....

Please tell her not to worry about it. It can hardly be placed upon her shoulders. The engine's obviously thrown a wobbly... I can understand how you (and your good lady) must feel... but where there's a will there's a way. The car deserves another chance.
