"This is a 1989 collectable White Citroen Estate which has only had two owners of which I am one. It has had regular servicing and many parts replaced throughout the years. The only problem is that the Gear Box has just gone!"

 £300 starting price, for a 18year old car with a blown gearbox!....and they say the drugs dont work!

Cheers

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I did e-mail the seller to give some advice about price, seeing as its effectively dead without a gearbox. I mentioned our club possibly being the best place to offload rather than scrapping if he/she doesnt sell, & not likely to either.

No one is going to buy it its screwed, & a gearbox issue will fox anyone but a mega keen mechanic surely? Best starting at 99p & no reserve to get some interest.

Got a feeling that it will be off to the scrappies shortly so they can collect £80.....

I get a lot of calls from CCC members wanting to sell their BX's. They'll tell me they've got a BX GTi 8v that they've had for years and spent thousands on at their local specialist.

Then i get the usual, "its absolutely mint with the exception of the bodywork, engine is a little smokey......"

Then it comes to money, "well its been a really good car and we think its worth £2000 because we've just had new rear arm bearings and spheres fitted....."

I then say, i think £200 is more achievable..... Most often they dont call again.... bliss.

It comes back to the simple fact that at this point in the BX's life the cost of professional maintenance far outweighs the value of the car but many CCC members talk about spending a grand on a set of spheres, arm bearings, clutch and an octopus. Doesnt make the car worth a grand though.

I tend to agree. My own car is worth less than I have spent on it in the last three months. It won't cost much to run for the next three years though. Most people sell a car because it is knackered. It takes little to make a BX worthless. (Like an empty tank or the cost of CCC membership  ) The only value it has is in its utility. The rarity of certain models is known only to three of us and we are not interested. BXs are for using, not trading. Spheres, clutch, arm bearings and an octopus. £300. If you cannot do it yourself, (or do not wish to) then you pay somebody else to do it (Copout!) This does not in any way increase the value of the car.
£133 for a trailer away low spec estate with the need for a gearbox - one born every minute!
