I had a set exactly the same on my BX14!

Image

Dunno if mine had been 'coloured in' black originally, but I always assumed they were meant to be like that!

I might have a go at these for Monica.....much cheaper than alloys, and I just found out that my Matiz needs a lot more money and work than I first thought!
(anyone know where to find Matiz trackrod ends? Chevvy quote £19 + VAT each!!!)

cheers

My missus used to have a Daewoo Matiz, she now drives a BX!

She seemed to like it but realised it was a bit on the dire side after driving a BX!

Those wheeltrims are of a Mk1 BX, and were supposed to be black and silver, quite rare now, for the Mk2 they just made them all silver

I'm watching those - they're the same as the ones on HVF and it would be nice to have a spare set so I'll bid if the price doesn't get too high.

Mountainman, I remember my Dad spending hours in the shed with a paintbrush getting that effect in the mid-eighties! It looks good... maybe I'll give it a try

Leroy, if you're looking at this thread, the one you gave me is still attached but it feels loose. There's something weird about that wheel but it's NOT the balance weight you blamed; that's nowhere near the trim. Very bizarre.

I know we all rib Mr Leech about his trim fetish, but i believe as BX's become more collectable authenticity becomes more important.
I personally like to keep the correct trims or period alloys on all my BX's so if there is anyway of posting pics of trims i think it would be a good idea to do so.
I've been here nearly a year & i still couldn't identify a TZD trim, i know they are rare but what do they look like?
TGS trims i believe are similar in appearence to silver 16v alloys if that makes sense.
My Mk1 sits on non metric alloys as i call them, were they an option on Mk1's other than the GT?, what alloy options were there for early 8V GTi's?

If no one else is interested in this i'll collect my anorak & sit in a corner, but if they are, take the stage Mr Tim Leech

Artic makes a good point but I don't have the knowledge to give a sensible reply! My memory tells me that the pic mountainman posted is the same as the ones my dad painstakingly painted in the eighties.... but that was a 19GT (I think) and I was only seven so my memory is probably at fault.

I've been encouraged to fit Tim's alloy wheels, which I have in my shed, to the 19RD but I've resisted because I think they would look really wrong. I'd prefer to have the wheels it left the factory on.

Tim - dive in!

Andy the alloys you have althought in a non metric style were a optional on the TR/TZ models bx mark 2's only, the Gti/16v models had the speedline alloys we all know avaibale in a 5j with 185/60 tyre (option on 8v, standard on hurricane) and 5.5j with 195/60 tyres (standard on 16v).

They are the same design as the Mk1 metric ones but where now 14" to allow the same tyres size to be used as the other non perfrmance models (165 or 175/70/14). Also the centre of the wheel had a black painted circle for the phase 2 models, for what reason I dont know!

Alloys were not availbale as a factory option on E/R/and TG models.

Afaik Its not possible to fit the wider alloys from a gti/16v to a MK1, the Mk2 had more flared wheel arches front and rear as part of its "facelift" which gave more room for the wider tyres.

mountainman - I just called my dad to check. He's pretty sure those are the same trims, he definitely painted them himself and he thinks he saw them somewhere and decided to emulate the look but can't remember where!

These days we have memes on the Internet - in the 80s they happened on wheel trims :)

I know they were on the car when I bought it (Christmas Eve - 1996). It was an '89 F-reg BX14 (F241BCK) which had been a 'local' car to Lancashire all its previous life. I ran her for almost 4 years until I blew the gearbox up in the Lakes in 2000. Sold it for £160 to the owner of my local Chinese takeaway, who crashed it within 4 weeks!!

Gawd, I miss that car!!! Best vehicle I've ever owned in 28 years driving.

If the black had been painted on, whoever did it made a damn good job! Until today I thought that they came out of the factory like that!
(Mind you, I do like the unpainted versions too!)

Thanks for bringing back some nice memories!!!

Sorry to get fetishistic about wheel related paraphernalia for a sec, but, er, you're half an inch out Tim, and as the ladies say, half an inch, it makes a big difference!

Speedlines came in 2 sizes: Hurricane / 8V GTi 5.5j 185/60
16V 6j 195/60

If you look at the rims on your car, you'll note it's stamped 6j, and SL211..

anal anorak removed, goes for beer.....
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I`m sure they are the same trims that were on the TRS auto and they had the black bits on them.
It certainly seems to help cars sell, especially on the bay, if they have the original trims on. Probably helps the image of originality and careful ownership.
