Windscreens – Tint Colours

Post by prm »

Having a new windscreen fitted to 16v. Insurers glass replacement contractors are having difficulty locating what I call, Grey/Smoke tint, fitted originally.
Their records show 6 types of tint fitted to BX’s
Mentioned this to Tom Shep some time ago and we came to the conclusion, (sober) there were only four types - to our knowledge. ???
Copper
Green
Grey/Smoke
And clear
Any others ?? and part numbers, with the correct tint colour description.

Perhaps graduated tints were available?

Does the 6 possibly include "top shade" versions?

The Digit has a top-shade windscreen in it, but it has a far size crack in it, and is scratched to hell, so it would be nice to be able to get a new one, but still with the top-shade on it.
this might be a signature

easiest way to check a tint colour is to place a bit of plain white paper half in the door fromt he oiutside and shut the door on it so you can see the paper through the window! i did with the replacement door i put on and that had no tint! (looked odd from inside when looking out as the rest have the green tint!)

Thanks Guys but still no clearer !!!!

Citroen say ??? and RAC glass replacement department, 3 types of screen fitted, or still available.
Citroen Ref.
Green tint – Pt. No. 95653182
Bronze tint – Pt. No. 95619452
Clear – no tint – Pt. No. 956619451
No graduated tints available.

I don’t think I’m colour-blind,, but 16v looks more of a smoke tint, (grey-blue) with a white paper backdrop.

Kitch –
You run a Red 16v, what colour tint would you determine. Many thanks

Oddly, I have two (green & bronze) on my TD!! (replaced drivers window)I'll take a piccy to see if it helps. The green tint is very subtle and I always thought it was 'clear' but tis def green.

Sorry I didn't see the question aimed at me!

Luckily, Nat took a picture out of the window on the Humber Bridge last year, and because the BX is such a crap car, the windows don't go all the way down.....allowing us to clearly see the colour of the tint

Image

Mine are all green. In fact every ph2 16v BX I've had has had green tints. I've only known of green, brown and clear on BX's. Most mk1 BX's I see are clear, but the GT has brown. I have also seen a ph1 16v with brown tints, but it usually seems to be brown up until 1989-1990 and then green onwards, from what I can tell.
When I ordered my screen, they gave the option of brown, green or clear. They said they used to have some with the band across the top, which would have been handy, but they stopped being made donkey's years ago

Actually I think it could just be my BX that's a crap car, because all the others I've had do go down further than that, if not completely all the way.

Mine go all the way!

I did have a complete spare set of brown tint untill sunday, alas I broke the N/S/F glass, so I dont anymore...

And you're right! After nearly four years of ownership, I've only just noticed that my valver does infact have green tint glass!
