Strange knock
Car started knocking from nearside front suspenion area this morning.Sounded like a CV/driveshaft knock.Seeing as I was on afternoons and in the middle of the Barnsley monsoon season, decided to go to work and have a look tomorrow.By the time I got to work, the car was knocking in a straight line and I was getting kickback through the steering wheel. When coming home, got no kickback, but still lots of knocking. The frequency of the knock doesn't increase whatever speed I travel at,however,it's quite pronounced under acceleration and disappears when freewheeling.Hope this makes sense.Anybody got any ideas before I start assaulting my car with a big hammer?Yes all my wheelnuts are there and tight

Hi Dean,
Probably way off the mark....but my old 14 suddenly started making similar knocking noises one day. When I took the wheel off to have a gander, I discovered the bottom ball joint was completely FUBAR, causing the "hammering" when driving. If it was shaft or CV related I would have expected the speed of the knock to vary with speed.
Another guess....droplink?
if it IS the balljoint, at least they're pretty cheap, and generally not too bad to swap!

Noise more or less stopped this morning.Went to Ken's feeling rather sheepish/foolish
He checked the CV joint and there wasn't a trace of grease. He Re-packed it and fitted a new strut return pipe(yes you CAN reuse the original clip
)No more noise, smooth as a babies bottom. Thanks Ken
