My BX lives again!! :D (see http://bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6046)

It was the coil. I swapped in the one I took off my other Meteor... bingo!

So it *will* be coming to the BX Challenge!! \:D/ I'm dead chuffed, especially as I'm moving house at the weekend!

Thanks to David (ellevie) and all others who offered advice, hints and encouragement.

Superb, Mate. Does this mean all us 16 owners should carry a spare coil pack around with us?

It makes sense for anone driving a petrol car to carry a spare coil and ign. amp really..
I damn near carry a spare engine in the boot of mine...

Well done chap!

Maybe we ought to! Does anyone know which BXs share the same coil (multiplug, not early spade connector style) - or are they the same on all non-injected petrol models?

Funnily enough, the module off the "dead" Meteor was Magneti Marelli, but the coil was Bosch. The module on the eBay car is Bosch but the duff coil was Magneti Marelli!

So following on from that, can someone list accurately what could constitute a sensible 'emergency coil back up pack' (I imagine all parts are available from GSF?)...

Well, anything can fail at any time really but:
I'd carry:
coil
Ign amp.
Leads.
plugs
Dizzy cap
Rotor arm
a length of cable
And the all important test meter, failing that, a trouble lamp!

GSF lists:

N92504 IGNITION COIL BX 16V 25.00
N92504 IGNITION COIL BX 14 88> 25.00
N92508 IGNITION COIL BX 16/19 CARB (ROUND) 21.50
N92508 IGNITION COIL BX 14 >5/88 21.50
N92510 IGNITION COIL BX GTi >90 25.00
N92512 IGNITION COIL BX GTi 90> 29.50

which seems to suggest only the cylindrical type is available. Searched on Eurocarparts by BX16 1991 model and only got the cylindrical one... :?

Yeah, but wouldn't the TRS have had the earlier cylindrical type with spade connectors?

Mine looks wedge-shaped like this:

Looks exactley the same as the valver coil mate, as did the one on the 16TRS!
Although yeah, I've seen 16TRS' with standard coils.

The square ones seem pretty common on alot of PSA stuff..
