Are they the same for all diesel models? Also would it fit a petrol I wonder? Doc?

my dads got a 405 1.7 td alternator fitted to his 16v that my uncle gave him free and it went on the same as a 16v one does. its been on the car 6 months now and works fine.

That alternator is from a TD, but yes, any alternator will fit any BX, at most you'll have to chage the pulley, and thats it.

I thought the amp ratings were different?

They are, but any alternator will physically fit, but yes, the amps output does vary..

I suppose the more electrical toys on a car then the more substancial the output of the alternator?
