BX GTI Trip Computer

Post by m_2975 »

Has anyone got or seen a car in real life with the Trip Computer?

It's the one fitted to MK2 GTI's.

IMO It's more useful than the coin holder that you loose in its place!

I'd be interested in exploring the option of having one. Anyone got any information about it too??

Only BX I know ever fitted with one was the BX 19 GT digit.

Ask Bazza he brought a BX19GT recently with one oinstalled not sure if it works or not?

I fitted one to a BX once that was one of these after market jobs my dad used to work for a Car Upholsterers that sold them. More pain than they were worth my key problem was the Fuel sensor it used to get to warm and thus packup gave up after replacing 4 sensors in 2 years and they stopped making them...funny enough.

Thanks Kiwi,

The Digit is a MK1 and that has a different trip computer system.

I agree, aftermarket ones are crap.

I have a picture somewhere of the MK2 trip computer. Will post it and see if it sparks someones memory.

Ive seen a few foreign spec cars with the computer in place of the coin holder, the key pad looks similar to that of the MK1 GT, never available in the uk I think.

Just was flicking through my parts catalogue and nearly fell off my chair. I now have a BX trip computer speed sensor in my hand. Cost me 15 pounds.
Now I am going to see if I can specially order the computer from France.

HEHEHE.

Besides that, Ian, do you know how I would be able to find this guy that had all the computers?

I've no idea Micheal.

He had loads of them, some were in bits for sale as spares. I never bothered about them at the time but i should have bought the lot!

To wire one of those trip computers in you will need the wiring harness for the computer, a speed sensor, a fuel flow sensor, and connect part of the harness to the fuel tank sender unit. ( thats if it wires up simlar to a ford fuel computer) :?

Well Rob,

That's all part of the fun!

So what if I have to take the whole car apart to install a little thing in the dash.

Just gives me more experience with the car.

IMO it's worth it. That useless coin holder gives me the sh!ts.
Only fits one or two coins from here in it and the rest jump out and into the dash when you go over a speed bump.

I put coins in my ash tray instead.
