The speedo on the GT doesnt work, the speedo cable seems different to the MK2 as it comes out on the right hand side instead of the left then feeds through the back of the dash., has anyone any experience of changing one? also the steering wheel is rather off centre but I im lost as how to you remove it unlike the MK2s Ive had.

Many Thanks

I think you should be able to fit a MK2 speedo cable to a Mk1, the Mk1 speedo is a bit shorter.

As for the steering wheel wheel removal, err..........you don't.

Get it centered on the tracking.

The whole steering column is in one piece right down to the universal joint, which only fits one way :? so you'd have to fit the column and UJ on to the splines of the pinion valve, and trust me, you'd never get it right.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Doubt it mate, the damage that it had was only fairly superficial.

No its always been like that, but it is actually an asy adjustment I got wrong when I changed the heater matrix. Basically, there is an upper shaft and a lower shaft, and some sort of basic joint half way between the wheel and the rack on the inside of the car. It was always off, and when I did the Hardy Disk I just positioned the front wheels by eye (it was 4 in the morning before a trip to Scotland after a few pints down the pub so you might want to check that :D ) (I slept in the back and my mate drove up BTW) There is definately a joint you can undo on splines, im sure, as undojng it and taking the wheel and top end of the shaft out made the heater matrix a really easy job.

Tim, as regards to the speedo. When I got mine it didn't work and I was contemplating the whole replacement option. Then the retired Citroen mechanic here repaired it by, while we were driving along, depressing the trip reset several times til it 'locked' and the speedo started turning. We then wedged the trip reset home with a piece of match. Yes, a bodge but it works 99% of the time, only occasionally spinning out wildly on the autobahn.. don't know if that's any help

Er.. I just had a thought while out walking the dog. I don't think that the GT has the Mk.1 drum speedo? It's got conventional dials hasn't it? So the above bodge probably is useless

Tracking is a simple and realtively easy job at ATS ot the likes. they'll centre the steering wheel and hold it in position with a clamp whilst they adjust the tracking on the car.
All round bonus as your tyres will wear evenly, the car will run true, it actually saves on fuel and your steering wheel will be perfectly centred. I think it's about twenty quid all in and well worth it.

I can't remember if the MK1 BX was supposed to have an offset spoke on the steering wheel - earlier Cits were - the idea was that if you crashed then the spoke disappeared under your arm rather than rearranging your abdominal organs. Looks v odd to have the spoke at 4 or 8 o'clock though!
I NEED a BX TD.

Thanks guys, the MK1s ive seen always had a centeed wheels as did the brochures, I will have a go at adams suggestion, and as a last resort ay take it to ATS etc, I hate taking any car to one of these places as my previous experiences have been poor!

Bily - you're lucky with your ATS - round here I'm fed up with trying to explain to tyre fitters that their equipment is incapable of tracking anything other than a wheelbarrow correctly as they start by clamping the wheel in the centre and working from there.

The correct procedure must be to centre the rack by measuring the track rod protrusion each side, then fit the wheel in the correct place then track car - not rely on the wheel being in the correct position.
