Has anyone ever cleaned these out?
i am going to run LHM flush through the system, and was wondering about cleaning the filters, i remember a couple of years ago seeing something about this on the forum, but am struggling to find out.
Thanks
Matt

I did this on the GSA. I didn't like to use petrol (so bloody expensive), so I used white spirit instead... then dried them off using a footpump meant for a inflatable mattress. If you want to go the whole hog, wash out the reservoir as well, but again make sure it is completely dry before refilling with fresh fluid.
Getting the filters back in the reservoir can be a trying process as they like to detach themselves from the lid and fall into the LHM several times... there must be a knack because it's all a rather tight fit. Maybe next time I'll reinstall the lid & filters before filling the reservoir!!
Cheers,
Mark.

Cleaning the filters is a necessity. You'd be surprised at how much rubbish and crud they catch. Mine in the Activa looked like they were wearing black fur coats
I also recommend strongly that you refill with Hydraflush and run it for a thousand or so miles before draining, cleaning the filters again and refilling with new LHM. It really does make a difference.
Hydraflush can be reused. Filter out the lumps and save it for next time.

I wouldn't re-use hydraflush. It's entire purpose in life is to collect the dirt from the system and hold it in suspension so that it's removed when you change the fluid back to LHM.
I've removed Hydraflush before now that is blacker than used engine oil because it's collected so much crap from a system. In the same way that you wouldn't re-use LHM, or engine oil, I wouldn't re-use Hydraflush.
When you're changing fluid be sure to bleed all the brakes each time, otherwise the slug of fluid that sits in the lines/calipers gets very very manky.

When I first checked the colour of my LHM I was immensely pleased to see it was a bright flourescent green colour having been told a new HP pump was recently fitted so felt secure.DavidRutherford wrote:When you're changing fluid be sure to bleed all the brakes each time, otherwise the slug of fluid that sits in the lines/calipers gets very very manky.
Recently, after we bled the brakes, I realised that wasn't quite the case. Looked more like stewed tea with a drop of milk for added cloudiness.

The first time I did it I made the mistake of filling the resevoir with LHM before refitting the top with the filters. It was impossible not to end up spilling some of it. I would definitely recommend getting the resevoir back in and all the filters in place before refilling.
