Picture album starting...

Post by Philip Chidlow »

Hi

I will be putting pics here: http://homepage.mac.com/macksy/PhotoAlbum5.html periodically. Starting off with a pic (not big I'm afraid) of my lovely black GTI and some curiosities... I'll post a note of any additions as I do them.

Very enjoyable reading about the Reliant cars. As you are probably aware Philip a garage in Chester hold all the manafacturing rights for Scimitars and used to have quite a few Reliants for sale as well as do a lot of restoration work on them.

My word, even the backs of the seats look like a BX, with that hollowed out area and the storage pouches!!

But that dashboard is horrid. It looks like an KORG M-1 electric keyboard. A huge lump of heavy square blackness!

Fascinating car though.

The "corrugated" rear lights and panel remind me of the Pininfarina BMC prototype, and of course the Rover SD1 which was one of the cars influenced by this design (the others being the GS and the CX)..

And in turn the SD1 influenced the '81 "J-Car" Cavalier, and I believe the GS/GSA influenced the MK2 and newer Astras and also the Skoda Favorit!

Mark.

Spoilt it? Nah, I think the FSO was built quite well. By comparison. :D

I think the Reliant FW11 and the FSO Polonez are very similar. So much so I think that they are the same car... The Poles did a Concordski with it!!!

Now there is a car that is rarer than the mk1 BX... When was the last time you saw an FSO Polonez, or the later Caro for that matter?

I'm beginning to scare myself as I like the FW11, especially the dash and the position of the gearchange... Very sporty... Oh dear...

The sooner Rene is back the better! LOL

As regards the Polonez I think there was one on eBay recently.
