For Sale 1990 BX 19 TZD

Post by rob-81 »

First of all, hello everyone. I have been lurking about several Citroen forums for quite a few years now. I know a few people on here (mainly by name only) but have met Kitch (bought a Xantia TD from him, sold it back to him a year or so later and bought an Activa from him). Vanny and I got our first BX’s at the same time (in the days of the old BX list), Vanny his beige (sorry – ivory) 19RD and me my blue 19RD. I have owned loads of Citroen’s over the years and am currently driving an Acadiane.

I am selling my brother’s BX TZD. He recently bought it when he returned from Australia but has now bought a Fiat Fiorino van. Although he has only owned he car for a couple of weeks, it has been maintained by a local Citroen specialist (and close family friend) for several years and used to be owned by me (in 2002/ 2003 - I regret selling it!). I have driven it for the last 10 days or so and have enjoyed being back in my old car! The details of the car are as follows:

• 164k – I bought the car in 2002 as a TZD auto and had the manual box from my old 19RD (with low mileage and extensive SH) put into the auto. So, although the TZD is registered as an auto, it is actually a manual
• Tax until 12/08
• MOT until 11/08
• Good spheres - soft ride which is actually better than many of the other hydro Citroen’s I have owned (CX, Xantia, XM)
• Ticking regulator. Despite the good spheres, the regulator ticks every 20 seconds of so – needs replacing soon?
• Fuel filler lock is missing. The flap is opened with a screwdriver! Not as bad as it sounds though!
• The heater blower works intermittently (during the 10 days I used the car, it worked approx 60% of the time)
• TZD interior
• Glove box lid is still attached and working!
• Not sure if it is characteristic of BX diesels (I haven’t driven one for a long time) but the clutch bites quite close to the floor. Absolutely no sign of the clutch slipping and no difficulty when engaging gears though.
• Tow bar
• Very new battery
• Engine starts and runs well, uses no fluids and feels strong and smooth
• Body work is pretty good. No significant rust and pretty straight panels (the odd ding and scruffy bumpers)

I have tried to take pictures of the relevant areas:

Price is £150 ono without tax or £300 with. Any questions, please contact me on 07834402275 (no point speaking to my twin Ben, he is a bit bemused by the interest I have shown in his “old banger”!)

The car is in Beccles Suffolk
Thanks for reading!

I hope so Tim. If I could find somewhere warm and dry to store my Acadiane during the winter, I would have the BX for my winter car. Unfortunately, I can't find storage!

Just to add to the original message, the central locking is a bit dodgy - sometimes you have to lock it two or three times before all the locks go down. It also has no parcel shelf in it but appears to have been re-piped at some point.

Thanks,
Rob

I didn't realise that. I wonder how many auto n/a TZD's there were! I'd imagine it was a very comfortable car when it was new and quite different and much better than equivalent astra/escort.

They're even rarer now. This one is a manual  I've had a couple of 1.9TZD manuals in the last couple of years and helped them become rarer by crushing them :D

What sort of comment is that supposed to be? I've broken/scrapped/crushed 4 BX's now, and I know other people on the forum have scrapped many more than that.

If a car, ANY car isn't worth repairing, then it isn't worth repairing. I'd scrap another BX tomorrow if it wasn't worth fixing.

I know you have david, and of course not all of them can be saved and those cars do help keep others on the road, whether its just me but i find it odd that people find the need to laugh and joke about scrapping bxs? It saddens me when any bx model ends up that way, even if its is beyond saving.

I did once take a leaky 16TRS to the local breakers (before the days of bxclub) and felt guilty for it, knowing what I know now I would have saved it. But then again that could me getting over attached to cars, they are to most just a lump of tin.

Im not wishing to offed anyone (cavmad) so dont jump on my back.

I think scrapping a car is just one of those things that happens, and you should hear the way people moan and slag you off if you talk about scrapping a 2CV or dyane.

Recent figures given to the club by the DVLA show less than 300 dyanes on the road and an estimate of maybe only 500 left in total.

I still scrapped one last weekend, had to be done, noone is gonna save a car tha will cost you 1500 to get roadworthy (not even nice looking)

so ultimately, who cares, they are only cars, we can do what we want wit them, plenty of people scrap cars that have nothing wrong at all.

each to his own.

Better to have a laugh about it than feel sad. It's a car, nothing more. TBH I think it's sadder that you feel the need to be sarcastic about the fact that someone else doesn't get emotional about a chunk of mixed metals.

I always think it's a bit of a shame when I scrap any car, but I don't get sad about it, and I would object strongly if someone else started being sarcastic about the fact that I wasn't emotionally attached to a car.

As mentioned no offence was meant I was just a bit taken a back by it, I shouldnt get attached to cars but I do, hence why ive chucked so much cash at my ailing 16v when I should have gotten rid.
