Accumulator Sphere

Post by Terry »

GRX steering a little stiff on first starting, and the suspension feels harder than usual. Tick on pump is about every 15 seconds.

Is this the accumulator sphere needing re-gassing? Can get it done in Yarmouth quite easily.

When was the LHM last changed? My steering was a little stiff first thing in the morning, and it was entirely due to old LHM.

15 seconds tic time is rather quick, but not the end of the world. It certainly shouldn't be affecting the steering.

David, I didn't think anyone else would be on here at this hour!

Well, I probably need to change the LHM since I don't know when that was last done. That was part of a few things I wanted to do this Spring, including the cam belt.

Would old LHM make the suspension feel hard, at least much harder than Kathryn or I remember when we first got GRX back in June last year I think?

I'm not certain why all BX's feel different, but GRX always did feel a bit harder than most.
I fitted a brand new accumalator sphere but it made no difference to the tick time :( saved you about £20 there then :D

Also I usually change the LHM as a matter of routine but I can't swear I did it on GRX, maybe a troll through the old threads may tell us something. :?

Great, thanks for that Ken. I've just read back all those forum posts about GRX. I love the bit where you said she would provide years of motoring. I do hope so, and it certainly looks that way now.

The car is in daily use, and I do about 500 miles a week. The back interior I covered over so I can move some dogs around. When I'm not moving dogs I uncover it and move computers etc.

We have just got two booster seats 'cause once again it looks as if we'll have the two young grand children living with us. That was the reason I wanted a BX estate. That situation has been on and off for a year now. The battle has cost a fortune and still there's no resolution.

Never mind, I have GRX and it's something very familiar in an very unfamiliar world. I love it.

Seriously thinking about getting a BX TZD for Kathryn my wife. We've had a couple in the past and that sharp power braking saved her life on two occasions, something our Landrover doesn't have. But that may have to wait until later in the year, funds are getting a little low right now. It's a bit of a toss up between keeping her Landrover on the road at 25 mpg and getting a BX. (OK So it's no contest, but the wife has to be convinced.) And Phillip has met Kathryn - she's a lady who knows her own mind.

OK Ken, you well and truly answered my request in Phillips blog for a history of GRX and it is really nice to know where she came from and whats been done to her. Thanks.
