air hose for bx 1.6 needed

Post by cacaolat »

Hello everyone,
the big airhose (see picture) on my bx is not the best anymore. looking for a decent one.
(I don't really know what it is for as the car also works perfectly without it)

I replaced this pipe 2 days ago.

Get yourself down the local motor factors and get some aluminium flexi pipe. I think its 55mm diameter.

Cost me about £5 including 2 new jubilee clips.

EDIT: Roughly £19 from your local unfriendly stealer

Thank you, in case I do not find an original one I will just find some sort of heatproof tape and fix it around the edges

Hi Gregor :) This pipe supplies hot air to the carb to help cold starts in winter. Similar to the setup on a BX14 except there's a thermostatically controlled flap at the front end, instead of a manual "winter"/"summer" lever. My first BX never had one fitted, and my current one didn't, although TBH I didn't notice much difference when I fitted one! I bought two lengths of aluminium flexi pipe from halfrauds and duck taped them together to achieve the length required.

Cheers,

Mark.
