I have today been shafted in a most upsetting and unpleasant way.
I believed I had secured the purchase of a very fine BX 16 Valve, meeting the advertised price, being in possession of a train ticket to travel tomorrow and with cash in pocket when the vendor informed me that he had accepted a much higher offer from another punter and would sell to him if I would not match the new asking price.
I don't want to discuss the morality of the case. but I would not treat another in the same way.
I am not without transport (see my ad for a BX 14 RE) but I am in the market for a top quality vlaver/GTI at sensible money. I am in the north-east of England where my BX seems to be the last roadworthy one in existence.

Cant really help with a valver either, mine would be way too much if it was for sale.
Although there's a red one on the bay that might be worth a look, and there was a black P2 in the local paper for £300, but I haven't gone to have a look at it, and I have no idea what it's like, but I understand it's had a fair amount of engine work in the last couple of years, but thats in Bristol anyway....
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

The very least that they should have done was to have refunded the train ticket....when money is involved people's scruples seem to disappear....
Its a real shame, but this isnt than uncommon i'm afraid....a bit like house gazumping.....
Anyway, another one will turn up, & who knows it may well be a much better car....

Having been to the small claims court twice now, I would not hesitate to both threaten it, and follow up that threat. It's nowhere near as daunting as many people think.
However, was there anything other than a "gentlemans agreement"? I believe in law that for a sale, unless money has changed hands, no contract has been made. It's a shitty thing to do, but possibly not unlawful. Had you paid a deposit, and then the price had gone up, then you would have a clear-cut case.
That said, if you have a written advert and maybe a diary entry, noting your phone call to the seller accepting the advertised price, then you might have a case. I'd take some independent advice.
Also, I'm interested to know (and I'm sure others are too) what numbers are associated with this? (price before, price after, train ticket etc..)
Regarding my costs the vendor has said that he will send me a cheque...
The car was originally advertised at a little over a thousand pounds, a price I agreed to, but the final offer from the third party was more than double that - the car unseen!
Although I feel I would probably be able to prove the existence of a contract, I do not wish to. I have recovered my equilibrium now and wish to move on. However should the promised cheque not arrive in the next day or two, that would be a different matter.

Someone offered £2k or so, but have they bought it? It would have to be in fairly astonishing condition to tempt anyone here to part with that amount for any BX (other than a BX4TC of course!)...
Either that or the buyer really wanted a good one and money's no object. It does happen.
If it doesn't sell do you think you'll be offered it again?
One might suspect (if being a little cynical TBH) that he tried to up your price without any real third party offer at all. But that would be dishonest wouldn't it
Theres one in CCW for £300. In my experience, paying top money for a car doesn't guarantee mintness. Better to start cheap and put money where you know it needs to be
Having owned 3 valvers, the quickest and best driving was the one that cost £100 and had ropey bodywork with no MOT! The most expensive one was tight all round, but slightly limper than the others, possibly due to a pampered lifestyle (a genuinely nice example though) and my red car fits somewhere between the two....expensive and ropey I'd say
