air con compressor wanted
air con compressor wanted
I know this is probably a daft quetion but does anybody have a working air con compressor that I could buy ? Or does anyone know if there is one that's interchangable from another vehicle? I have recently bought a TZS estate (will post pics soon)with retro fit aircon and took it for a regas and apparently it needs a new compressor.Have searched the web but cannot find a new or recon one for a bx...If I have to I could take the one off my GTI but that is going to be up for sale soon and I would like to keep it complete if I can.Any info would be really appreciated,Richard

I bought a condensor a couple of years back from http://www.ariazone.co.uk/
They were very helpful and did not seem fazed by my request - unlike everywhere else I tried...
Good luck!

All older compressors can be rebuilt by specialist companies. Do you know what model of compressor is actually fitted. This is a good starting point.
You will need a compressor with the same connections as your present one. This may not be the same as the Sanden SD7 fitted to BXs as standard.
Are they sure that the compressor has failed ? They leak a bit and can seize up but the usual cause of loss of pressure in the system is refrigerant leak. Either through the joints or due to condensor damage.
What are your exact symptoms?

The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
I have managed to speak to the aircon guy again today and he's absolutely certain it's buggered said it still had R12 in it and that it had'nt been used for a long time, full of gunk and stuff.Asked him what type of compressor it is, but could'nt tell me but has offered to take it off on my way home one night next week so I can get serial numbers,at least I'll have a better idea what I'm looking for.I'm hoping whatever it is has been more commonly used on another type of car and that I can get a second hand one cheaply,or at least cheaper than a new oneand also save stealing from the GTI.Which BTW I will be offering up on here shortly, when I get some time to sit down and do a proper listing...but it needs to be soon as I desperately need the space

So the monkey is talking bollocks again, is he? Yes. The compressor hasn't got any R12 in it. That has long since gone. The cylinder head of the compressor is removeable and the compressor is still likely to be a coing concern if the flap valves are ok and uncracked. The old oil is to be drained and the lot washed out with white spirit and then replaced with 145cc of PAG10 oil before refitting and recharging (following a 45 minute time on vacuum to boil out the water vapour). The Sanden compressor is well known and the manual is available somewhere online. I may well have posted the address somewhere on this forum about four years ago when I did a conversion. The compressors are pretty tough and you can get all the bits. Don't give up.
