Red GTi 4x4 on PistonHeads

Post by Matt H »

Looks like it hasn't moved in a while... and I think £500 is very optimistic, but might be worth a look if you are nearby.

Needs exhaust and tyres for MoT.
Well tyres is fair enough, but the exhaust!
Imagine taking that into Kwik-Fit!

£500, nah, too much.
Where are all these 4x4's suddenly cropping up from?

If it was chaeper I'd buy that for my "idea project".
But bugger £500, I'd rather fabricate a 4x4 from a standard shell.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Looks nice that, would be a shame to see it scrapped, but as doc has mentioned already, that bloomin exhaust. Mind you if its only a certain section & the rest is ok, might be a goer???

But £500, no chance, its scrap value i'm afraid, so £150 tops....

I reckon the exhaust will cost more than £500. It's a shame because I bet loads of these got scrapped for stuff like exhausts and smallish parts.

If you look at the vendors other ads, he's clearly been asked to shift a load of cars from a field, as they're all £500. I suspect it might well just be "a price" to allow him to advertise on Pistonheads.

The Matra Murena looks rather interesting too, but again isn't worth £500.

Interesting on the BX though... seems to have a fair number of factory options. Headlamp protectors, sunroof deflector. Anything else visible?

I'd be willing to bet you could buy that 4x4 for a lot less than £500. And it has to be said it does look tidy. You never know, a dab with a welder might sort the exhaust.

BX 4X4 exhausts are very rare, but didn't someone (Ian) have a system that could be used as a pattern? Then, I guess a few hundred quid would get a SS system. So, if a genuine BX enthusiast with the necessary skills to sort the rest of the car, could get it for say, £150-200 then for less than a grand you could have a very nice, rare BX. Owners of 16v's regularly sink more than that into their BXs without too much trouble, after all. :D

BTW I do like the look of that Matra too: Is that three seats across I see?

I gave my exhaust to Brian King who i'm sure would be more than happy to lend it out to have patterns made.

That's because they're worth sinking the money into, unlike the 4x4 which was pointless from day one! :P

Maybe Kitch, but still a BX and a rare version too. And although it is much maligned, I'm sure none of us would like to see the BX4x4 disappear for ever, for want of some TLC.

The 4X4 is a pinless grenade and honestly best forgotten, as Kitch rightly says; dragged out because 4X4 road cars were briefly fashionable as the Audi quattro was the "in" rally car. It was not a good idea. It still isn't.
Rarity is not the same as desirability.

I'm not buying it - I don't want to play Russian Roullete.

Oh well. No chance of a modification to replace the achilles heel?

TZD 4x4 and 16v 4x4 would have made more sense, but Peugeot didn't want their 405 Mi16x4 upstaged did they

I was looking at the pictures again, and from what I could see, it is a well looked after car that has been neglected over the last few years, and been left to rot in some field. I would probably think about it myself, but insurance companies would just laugh at me or just charge me a ridiculous amount... which on top of what it'll cost to put right and run is simply not an option right now... Plus I would rather have a 16v, which, if we are not priced off the road in the next two years, I will.

Even if it's a complete basket case, it could still help keep some other 4x4s on the road.

Doc - What's your 'idea project'? Sounds interesting...

Matt

They didn't, but by using the transfer case from a 405 MI16x4 in a BX, you effectively replace the pin in the grenade and make a very capable vehicle.

Note that it must be a 405 MI16x4 and NOT a 405 GLx4. The GLx4 model used the same transfer case as the BX, and hence they all broke too.
