hello
problem: smell of petrol when stationary and then upon inspection, notice a few slow drips from offside rear suspension cylinder area.
does this sound like the famous 'pulsation damper' leakage? as a quick fix i'll want to just bypass it (need to tackle it on friday morning before driving up to wales on me hols)
so if any of you have done this before could you give me a quick list of what materials i'll need (e.g. length of tubing etc)? would save me much faffing!

f this is the metal pipe, I just bought a length from B&Q depot and bent it to shape, then fitted it as one complete piece using the original as a guide. Pretty easy going too

I had one leak on my GTI many years ago.
I bypassed it and could not tell the difference.
It ran fine for years afterwards.
I expect they are used on other cars, so it should be possible to find another one.

I've had mine bypassed as well, as it leaked. Some say it doesnt make a jot of difference, others disagree, draw your own conclusions from that???
I've not run the car properly yet, so once i'm back from my hols i'll report back on anything that i notice. On tickover i havent noticed owt.

not had one one mine since i put it together on the grounds that it was a pig to get the pipes off the donor car. Start by taking the spare wheel and carrier out, makes life MUCH easier. After that i remove the filter/pump/rubber block assembly in onepiece. I've got all original pipes on mine and without the damper so i assume that the pipes are all long enough to by pass without needing replacements/extensions.
Seem to think it helps if you remove the OS road wheel and stick a jack under it so you can crank it up and down, this allowed me access 'from the back' to badly positions jubilee clips.
Of course you should be using fuel hose clamps not jubilee clips, if nothing else it will reduce the speed at which the pipe splits!
