Meteor 16 auto 60k miles.

Post by Philip Chidlow »

Edwards and Sons are my local Citroen breakers/mechanics and I was speaking to Mark there today. He was enthusing about a lovely 60k mile Meteor 16 auto he has taken in. Not the most popluar model but in his opinion, far too good to break. Well it would be if the cambelt hadn't gone.

Mark said he wanted to fix it up, but he reckons on it needing to fetch around the £400-£450 mark to prevent it being dismantled instead. What are the prospects of it fetching that? I have my doubts but will reserve judgement.

I'll take some pictures when I go over there early next week.

Hmm, If it were very mint, possibly - but if it was just average then doubtful. After all - why has it gone to the Freddies?

£400 with new cambelt, valves, gaskets etc, plus MOT and tax. Maybe.

Pics would be good.

Mark.

Sad but true, it might not be worth fixing up. I'll get pics and details next week.

About the same as seeing me in a Wr*xh*m shirt in a Citroen X*nt*a whilst extolling the virtues of fox hunting I shouldn't wonder.
It's not worth that much with a full MOT and in excellent condition.

I'm afraid you are right, Billy. Sad but true.

But, exactly how much will it cost to fix, I wonder?

It's worth £150 plus in bits/scrap. So if it him costs £250 to get it fixed up, there's no point. But if someone wanted to buy it for £150 and fix it themselves, using their own skills rather than paying for them, then that's a possiblility. Trouble is, the 16 auto is just about the least popular BX (poor economy aside, that's slightly unfair; I think they're OK) you can get. Even if this is a minter, with FSH, tax and MOT - with 'only' 60k on it, it's still £500 tops in my opinion.

Still not a lot for a nice car, but there are still lots of BXs out there for that money or less...

Well, if it doesn't get fixed, I am in need of a good condition drivers door in Meteor Grey...

Really?

It's still debatable whether a swap would be worth it. :(

I believe Snoopy's engine and box (my crashed Mk 1) are still sitting in David R's garage. I still can't see it being a goer though... I think those of us with the skills and facilities to do an engine swap all have enough on their plates at the moment.

It'll be on its merry way to China, shaped like a cube. No demand from us, so there's unlikely to be much interest outside of the club.

Shame, but thats life for BX's these days. I wonder how many good un's have been cubed because of owners trading them in for newer motors.....

Low mileage autos are still in demand, the last few that went on ebay fetched good money, £400-£500 isnt much for a tidy car with a MOT these days no matter what it is.

I think its worth £400 all day long to the right man if its as clean as it sounds.
