A few more technical questions...

Post by TB2 »

Hello folks,

While I was driving around today a few other things came to my mind...

1. Every time I apply the brake, I can hear some short hissing noise from somewhere behind the brake pedal (doseur valve?). I assume this is normal... Am I wrong?

2. Sometimes when accelerating, the engine seem to be "stuttering" a slight bit. I can also feel the gas pedal vibrating a wee bit. Usually happens when pressing the gas a bit harder. Also, around 2500 rpm (TD engine) it happens that the car suddenly accelerates much quicker even though I don't press the pedal any harder. Can't reproduce it right after. And I don't mean the turbo kicking in, or at least I don't think it's that. It comes much quicker than how the turbo usually feels like. Any idea?

3. Every time when I shift gears and release the clutch it's squeaking for a short moment. Is it just rust or might there be something wrong?

Any input on these subjects?

Thanks!

No. 3

Try applying WD40 or other water dispersing-lubricating spray around the clutch pedal pivot bolt. It cured the squeak on mine!

I don't mean that the pedal is squaking (which it actually is, but that's easily fixable as you described), but that there's a squeak from somewhere in the front, most likely the clutch itself...

From what you describe it will probably be the release bearing being dry, and making a squeak when load is taken off it but it is still turning. If you are going to go to the trouble of changing it you might as well change the cover and friction plates at the same time while the gearbox is off.

I’ll go with Mat with the squeak from the release bearing.

Also, it sounds as if the clutch centre plate is hanging on the splines of the gearbox input shaft. Rusty/dry??
