Help - Smashed sunroof.

Post by dwarfkat »

Last night in the early hours some mindless nutcase decided climb onto the roof of my car and smash the sunroof. The model is a BX14E Leader. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement glass and the outer poppets that takes the screws. The location is UK - West of England. Any help on this would be appreciated.

If it's a factory fitted electric one, there should be no problem, XM's for sure have the same glass, so there may be others.

If it's a pop up aftermarket one, it's just gunna be pot luck I'm afraid. :(
They think it's all over, it is now!

You say West of England? South West by any chance? If so try Lang & Potters, Bell Close, Plymouth there number is in the phone book. They used to fit aftermarket sunroofs probably can help you find a replacement.

Other than that Insurance Company or like said Glaizers.

Hi Kiwi
All i can say is you must have a very big phone book if its got a Plymouth UK phone number in it. (it must be the size of a house)

Hi Dwarfkat
On a more serious note if you know the make of the roof and the size when you are trying around to get a replacement it will make your life much easier.
Check to see if there is a model number or type near the handle.
Britax were a common type back then just a possibility

Regards Kermit :) :)

Thanks for your help.

Up to the present time I have not found a replacement glass and have covered the area with a thick doubled sheet of polythene.

From the remnants of the toughened glass I have found out two things. The manufacturer of the glass was 'Taylor Made', 'toughened' and the numbers '**OT 134-M428*** ' are visible on a fragment. The stars represent possible additional letters or numbers. I have tried Autoglass but without any luck. I'm sure there is a replacement glass sitting in someone's garage, but where is the problem.

Does anyone know who used to fit sunroofs with 'Taylor Made' toughened glass products? Also, what year did 'Taylor Made' finish manufacturing toughened glass for sunroofs?
