BX19 TGD Hatchback 1905cc Diesel

Post by sdcoomber »

Listed on eBay but not much interest yet. Only other fault not listed is a "groan" from nearside front suspension. Passed MOT for last two years and goes up and down OK. Open to offers. See ebay listing

Performance

Post by sdcoomber »

Hhhmmm. There is a considerable performance difference, so perhaps you will miss the BX17. Is there a quid quo pro? Perhaps. I used to get about 46mpg out of it which was OK - but I could get almost than much from my 3.2 Litre Merc. Then the last time I drove it back from France I had a reasonable size trailor and my Yamaha 900 on it and the car full of tools. I was on my own and left early so took a very steady 600 mile trip home keeping top speed to around 60-65. Despite pulling the trailor I got 58mpg.

It just goes to show that the non turbo can be very economical if you drive like a pregnant nun. Armed with that, my son would use 5 litres a day and drove 65 miles getting slightly better than 58mpg - but again he kept the speed to 65 ish.

Prior to that I used to drive the motorways at 75-80mph and it cost me 12 mpg !!! I suspect the turbo is not so good on fuel. Anyone know better?

The official figure for a turbo diesel is around 43mpg, however, if you drive it without the turbo coming in much you can get 50+mpg.

The n/a i reckon on average is approx 10%+ better than the turbo on fuel. I regularly get 50mpg out of my n/a commuting to work & back, so on a run at 70mph i should better 50mpg, trouble is i struggle to keep at those slow speeds

Just re-filled my new 19RD and it returned 46.23mpg in all-urban mileage. Well pleased.

I have a BX DTR Turbo Estate (210,500 miles) and my wife had a ZX 1.9D (103,000 miles). To be honest I don't think there's much in it for fuel consumption - probably both in high 40's for general running around - have seen low 50's on long runs.

Latest tank-full: got 54.3mpg (75% motorway mileage @ under 60mph, 25% urban mileage). Now I'm wondering if anyone ever broken the 60mpg barrier in a 19RD?

Not broken the '60' barrier yet....but my 1.7 TXD Turbo regularly gets up into the high 50s.
On the trip down to Huntingdon for this years National I got a decent 57.4mpg for the 380 mile round trip! (Mostly M-way). I do tend to stick to the 70-75 limit in 5th on motorways, but give her the occasional 'clog-down' blast every so often. (Keeps her on her toes!! )

Only car I've ever had with better economy was a '99 Daewoo Matiz 0.8....which would only reach around the 85mph mark!
