GTi bad starting

Post by Jaba »

Any one any useful suggestions ?
My GTi with no flow meter type ignition is very loath to start when hot and has been left for 15 mins to several hours.

It starts from cold always but takes a lot of starter churning when hot to get it running. Flooring the throttle while turning over seems to speed things up quite a lot. The K light comes on always if the starter has to turn too long to get it started.

Its been like this for a year or two and I've not been able to cure it.
As this seems like rich mixture or leaking injectors symptoms I had the injectors cleaned and tested a while back. This cured the kangarooing in traffic on small throttle openings but not the starting.

The co mixture setting is one I have played with as well tweaking it from 0.3 to 4.5 but this seems to make no difference.

Apart from this the car runs normally and gives good mpg/l.

What to do next ???
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.

Poor starting and an injector clean now masking kangarooing?
I reckon you've got a perished pipe sonewhere on the inlet manifold, mate. You seem to have all the symptoms of over lean mixture.
