Wanted! tinted plastic C pillar windows

Post by Aerodynamica »

Ello all, I'm after a pair of good C pillar windows for the BX - has anyone got a breaker BX with them that could give them up?

Good luck Graeme! Your best hope is a new pair ( I remember someone here buying some from The National a couple of years ago). Very hard to remove the old dry brittle ones without shattering them ( even if most of the glue has lost contact), unless you have the sensitivity of a surgeon - I've tried several times in the French scrapyards. You need some suitably strong wire and the patience of the Dalai Lama! :D

Graeme there was a 19TRS at bullwinkles garage (see post on bx parts hoard) which looked to have decent rear 1/4 windows.

Thanks guys, RM - do you mean the garage in Lincoln?

Todao- have you removed a set before? is the glue hard stuff of soft stuff like silicone? I was hoping to saw at it and then use black tiger seal to fix them on..

The glue - where it remains bonded is hard. You cannot get a saw in there to do the job - maybe just a hacksaw blade though. Your best bet is some strong wire, wrapped around a couple of wooden grips like a cheese cutter and ease it very gently around the panel.

Or you could apply window film to them if they're unsightly??

I feel that this wouldn't work - the problem is that the central window itself has plastic crazing - it will remain non transparent after a film is applied.

I want them to return to their as new condition.

You could get some of the serated wire that they use to cut out windscreens, it's available from good motor factor shops, 10 or 20 mtr for about £5.

The only problem with it is, it will cut through the plastic window just as easily as it cuts through the bonding.

I did have a few of these window things some time ago, but I sold them on to members on here, there may be just one left, but not sure which side though.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Hi Ken, cheers on the advice. If you have an off side one I'd be interested! I can live with the NS on as it is since it's the lesser perished of the two AND because I've made the OS one even worse in my efforts to 'do it up'
