Can anyone tell me what the average economy of a TZi 19 (manual) should be?

I never get any better than around 30mpg or so with a mix of motorway & city suburban driving.

Sound sick?

10L/100 klms around town.

7.5L/100 klms touring

Mixture depends on conditions, but 8.5 - 9.5 is about average. That's based on a couple of cars.

Well, metric, last time I checked was 10.72 litres per 100kms

a couple of checks before that was 8.82 litres to 100 kms

so, that seems about "ball park" to use a George Bush

Don't get Yank gallons and ours mixed though as it tends to confuse.

Just did the next fill-up and this time it looks even worse, worse ever.

20mpg or 14 litres to the 100 kms!

This one is all suburban peak hour driving Balmain - Hornsby, Hornsby - Balmain. Back to Pindimar tonight for the weekend, so maybe the freeway run will show up something.

Not obvious fault or missing etc.

Any ideas?

Rang Tom at Citromet and he suggested that it may be the computer so he will check it when I can bring it in.

Appreciate any suggestions, though

What kind of mpg figure could I expect from a 19 t.d BX estate? I ask because I`d be absolutely loathe to sell my 1.7 n/a hatch which is currently averaging well into the fifties and will do 65mpg on a run but I could do with an estate for a number of reasons.

About 45 - 50 from a TD estate, less if you have a lead right foot.

Thankyou.I think I could live with that. The only other choice for me would be a MK3 Cav with the wonderful Isuzu motor but they didn`t make an estate so I`ll look out for a BX t. when I`ve got some money

Mate, with all due respects, if he thinks that's a computer problem, take it to someone who knows what they're talking about.
Crank angle sensor maybe, could more likely be a case of wanting the fuel injector nozzles cleaning or maybe a blocked muffler or cat stuffed; maybe a lambda sensor, but its chances of being a computer is on par with getting struck by lightening....twice....in the same spot....at the same time....in consecutive years.

Take a look at this. It's a DIY job that takes a half an hour and $21 to fix, may sort it all in one hit.

Hmmm - when I ran a TZi estate last year it seemed to gulp down a gallon every 20-25 miles, despite doses of injector cleaner. It didn't like town traffic much, and went MUCH better when warm and after a vigorous run. Does it get up to operating temperature on the town trips?

I have knowledge of the car David refers to. Never got better than 28 out of it.
In contrast, the TD estate (Which is not for sedate drivers, you won't like each other,) returns 46mpg over a week of mixed driving but with aircon on all the time, and averaging 100 MPH will do 33mpg (Using good Christian English miles and gallons at 1.603 Kilometres to the pound.)

That sound worth trying. where can I get hold of one of those kits from ACA. A search of the net produced no clues.

Injector cleaner doesn't sound nearly as radical as the kit that Alan has suggested though.

But the TZi that you mention only did 20-25mpg, that doesn't sound like anything but stop/start traffic. The worst measure that I have had in real traffic, till this recent check, had been 25mpg. Usually, a mix of heavy traffic and freeway running produces around 30mpg to 35 mpg.

All freeway and county running a bit better than that, again.
