I am brave!

Post by stuart_hedges »

For I am teaching my girlfriend to drive. See the trust!

Image

I probably wouldn't want to teach someone from scratch, but C started learning a while ago then stopped and currently has CBT and gets around on a scooter so she has knowledge of the rules of the road etc.

Deadline: She has to pass before BXAgon, or I'll be doing a LOT of driving... Wish us luck! We just did one short session, but she can set off and drive along a straight road, do a three point turn, park in a bay, and do a hill start. Not bad for a beginner, I reckon.

Er, good luck to you both!

You do know of course that teaching the better half to drive is one of the top ten reasons of a relationship breakdown?!

You sir, are indeed a brave man!

Yup, we know that! And I do intend to keep hold of this one...

If it all goes horribly wrong we'll pay for lessons but we wanted to give it a try this way first - it'll save a lot of money...

My brother just passed first time today, having had....no lessons!

Well, he had 5 about 2 years ago. since then he's been going out with his girlfriends mum with the L plates and just driving around. His car control is all there, and I spent some time with him yesterday making sure he got the technical bits right.
And he passed....5 minors! I'm chuffed for him, although not as chuffed as I am about me as I can say I've passed my test 3 times all first time, but then I am smug 8)

BX is an easy car to drive though, I imagine she'll be fine.

Not as hard as you might think. Provided you know what order to teach everything in, you're fine.

Pop quiz for the Highway code: You are permitted to use front foglights in two weather conditions. Can you name them? (without looking up the answer.)

I was asked this on my test, and I got it right. Examiner thought I was showing off, as he'd actually only asked me for one of the conditions, but I gave him both. Next question I got was an absolute swine with no actual correct answer.

1) Fog

2) In an emergency if main headlamps have stopped working?

1) Fog: a weather condition that, erm, makes visibility difficult. A bit like the sort of cloud in front of your eyes after 3 pints of vodka, 10 pints of strong lager and a coming together of head and wooden floor.

2) When faced with a highly shiney car that the sun bounces off. The glare of ones fog lamps deflects the glare of the T-Cut and shows up any inadequacies, spots of tar or LHM streaks?

Easy:
1) foggy shit with visibility less than, er, 100feet or something

2) if you're a chav with a 1.0 Corsa and 3000KG of plastic shit glued to it!

1) getting closer, but not quite the right figure.

2) Clearly correct, in a completely incorrect sort of way.

It's a while since I looked at a highway code but it's probably aligned to when you HAD to use your headlights when driving on just sidelights was legal.

1) Fog (but only when visibility is less than 100 yards)

2) In conditions of falling snow.

Second Lesson

Post by caroline »

Hello Everyone,

I managed to get my long suffering other half back behind the wheel and only managed to make him squeak with fear once!

We recently realised that the deadline has moved : originally I wanted to be driving by BXagon but due to house move I want to be driving before the end of June. I AM DETERMINED!

After driving much more smoothly than in previous lesson I proved that whoever said that you can't stall a Diesel was a filthy liar! ( by stalling the car 6 times in a row)

Citrobics now has an alternative name.....AeroBX! what do you think?

Good :D

Welcome. Well, seeing as the BXagon isn't until 18th October you have time to hone your skills!
