Accumulator replaced, but even faster tick times...

Post by LiverMatt »

Hello all!
Having followed the DIY guide to replace my accumulator this morning, everything seemed to go off well, and my pressure regulator ticking went down to every 20-odd seconds.
However, out on a [celebratory] drive, the tick times shot down to every 3 seconds. I'm really confused since before the change it was only every 6-7 seconds! :?
Any help appreciated!!
Thanks!

Matthew.

Check for leaks Matt and make sure the LHM is topped up. I did the front spheres on my TZD and got one seal in wrong and it was leaking out, the accumulator was ticking like made trying to maintain pressure.

Great, thanks! I'll do that now. I'm dead certain it's not the pump either, since it lifts the car with ease.
Thank you!

Also worth checking that pressure release screw is done up nice and tight again, as is the sphere itself.

Right, I've checked everything I've twiddled with. The sphere's on tight, the seal's on and flat, the pressure release valve screw is nipped up nice & tight, and the LHM level was fine. I've basically run through everything again, but no luck... :(
I tried my local Citroen specialist, who fitted a new pressure regulating valve for me, to see if it could be that. They just said I'd need to 'bring it in', which sounds a little too costly for me. I'm frozen now, with the snow & all!!
Thanks,
Matt

Is this Double S? If so they seem to be generally very good, particularly Andy if you can catch him.

Where did you get the sphere from and what make is it? It might have suffered a premature death somehow; I'd try replacing the original and see if it goes back to 6-7 seconds between ticks, in which case you know it's time to take the new sphere back...

Yesss Double 'S' it is, they're very good indeed! Just that my wages aren't, haha!
I'm going to take it in tomorrow now, and ask if they can look it over for me. I'm probably missing something blindingly obvious. Or at least I can hope I am!
The sphere was from GSF on County Road. It's manufactured by Amtex, date marked 20/07/08. I hope you're right.
Thanks for the advice!
Matthew.

Have you done your Citrobics?

Suspension height top to bottom as many times as you can stand?

To try and purge any air out.

It looks like I have a leak somewhere that's releasing pressure. Reckoned to possibly be the front struts.
So, I have a long weekend off work coming up. What better a time to have a good fiddle around?
I could never get bored of Citrobics!!
