Hang on ... surely I will need to be the registered owner before I can tax it because otherwise the code on the V5 will mean that the disc is sent to the wrong person?

Yes...

My error actually.. What I meant was take your insurance certificate with you and tax it locally before you drive it home.

Or get the current owner to tax it online before you pick it up.

It's a rather ridiculous situation that if you drove it home with no MOT, you'd most likely have no problems at all, and no-one would care, but drive it with no TAX, and you've got problems.

And dont even think about using a tax disc from another car.
Thats fraud, and is a criminal offence.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

They get it any way they can, did you hear about the fuel tax thing? It's gone up ... I think diesel is over £1 per litre again. Are we not supposed to notice? It's probably their way of trying to get the vat cut back.

Can you tell me how I "tax locally" please? Never done this.

At a post office. You need: V5, Insurance document and MOT certificate.

Thats exactley what it was. After promising there would be no increase until at least April.

Actually the increase in duty more than covers the cut in VAT by some margin.
