The 2.1TD is an XUD only in that it shares a similar bottom end with the XU10. It has a 12 Valve head and is in fact, a lot closer to the 2.5TD which found a home in many an XM. It too has a 12V head but unlike the 2.1, has dynamic balance shafts.

The 2.1TD is tight in a Xantia due to the cant angle and the wide head but I know at least one has been fitted into a BX. Have a search through the gallery and if my brain is working, a Romanian did the (very impressive) conversion on a red BX. Goes like stink apparantly

There is also someone trying to shoehorn a Xantia V6 ES9J4 engine in a BX somewhere too  8) :P

The 2.1TD is a lazy engine and is not nearly so rev-happy as the 1.7 and 1.9TD although it has loads more low-down grunt and it can pull some amazingly high gear ratios...

All later 2.1 and 2.5TD engines had electronic injection pumps, the 2.1TD using the (in)famous Lucas EPIC and the less said about those, the better. A mechanical Bosch VP20 or Lucas DPC can be retrofitted though.

I love the 2.1TD :D

Here is the car in question and some words from the owner who I managed to track down - he is Dutch ( car is in Holland) but he lives and works in China at the moment - so this one might take some time. Anyway :
But the V6 engine is compact, so no big probs so far...
It's not that hard to build in the V6, it's easyer then u think, the V6 is less wide then the 4 cyl and the cylinder banks of the V6 are under a angle of 30º + 30º (4 cil is also under a 30º angle)
In front of the original BX engine you find enough space, a 16v engine is kind of the same with using space,
the 16v radiator is also different then a normal 8v engine, because of the need for more space for the intake manifold.

The radiator from the latest XM V6 will fit perfect, also the tubes, a bigger prob is that the drive shafts won't fit, so i will make my self Xantia/BX shafts :)
Also i will use the V6 breaks from the Xantia.

The 2.1TD in my XM is wooonderful. Much prefer that low-down grunt. My favourite engine that I've ever owned.

No, the 2.5 has the engine designation : SH1T3.

Awful awful thing.

The D12 is ok, but the 12 valve heads are not that effecient.

A 2.1 with an 8V head would be the way forward..
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
