Cheers all
Had some progress today. Got back from work and couldn't resist having a closer look just before it got dark. Rolled it back down my drive (which is on a hill) and started it up. Performed some Citrobics and noticed the front struts are sticky at the top, hopefully just a greasing needed there.
The misfire then came back and eventually got really bad. Then it ran out of fuel! I got some more fuel, still wouldn't start! Jacked the back end up to make the car level....still nothing.
Decided to quickly check the basics (it was pitch black by now!) and straight away found the plugs and leads soaking wet! Must be condensation or something, as no water can get in there unless you wash the engine.
Anyway....misfire is now cured

Runs happily, although exhaust is v.loud. Needs a service and the plugs look unhappy, but leads good.
Managed to get some more pics:
Overall today I'm feeling positive. The rust around the screen isn't holy, just unsightly so by removing and re-fitting the screen (something I won't be doing!) it would be possible to neaten all that up at the mo.
The sills look quite solid too, and the rear exhaust hanger is there.
I even tried polishing it on the bonnet edges, and it responded quite well. The front bumper is a bit sunbaked and blistered as are parts of the rear spoiler, so they'll never be mint but otherwise it's not too bad so far. Rear door does need replacing though....it's knackered.
Other things I've noticed are the foglamp switch is not a foglamp switch

One of the heater cables has snapped and it needs a new knob too. Cooling system seems ok, but heater is cold...suspect blocked matrix, so I'll try a flush first. Oil pressure etc seems fine and once the misfire had cleared it didn't really smoke.
Other thing I noticed was one of the rear cylinder gaitors seems moist. Never ventured into that area before.
As things stand, I'm feeling more positive about getting it roadworthy again though. Breaking was a last resort thing.
Only thing I can't work out if I do go ahead and start the repairs, is whether to spend little time and effort, just get the basics done and ask reletively little for a valver, or whether to try and go to town with it...risking lots of my own money in the process!
One thing's definate, if I was trying to make money I'd definately get more by breaking it....that much is certain. And quite a bit more.
So I'm probably a bit of a fool for planning how to go about fixing it up once I've moved house

Kill Jester.
