The wife drives

Post by toddao »

It was quite strange watching my BX drive off without me yesterday. The wife's decided she needs to get out more and though it's always been there for her to drive, she hasn't - preferring public transport.
On one hand it's great that she loves driving a car of 1985 vintage when I know most women would want something newer - in fact most of her friends are taking advantage of the 'economic stimulus package' and trading in their old cars, and getting €2.5k against a new one.
On the other hand, I know it's an everyday car really but it's my car and a classic really that I lovingly fettle to keep rolling and off goes the wife in my 80s museum on wheels!! :D

( uh-oh 'Mission Control's' looking over my shoulder, reading this, saying : I'm not driving bad am I? I'm saying : that's not the point, it's about my male feelings)

Any thoughts? Do other peoples partners drive their BXs without these feelings? She want to go really far next weekend to visit some friend. She's now saying : how about another car? Yes dear, I've seen a nice AX in Sigfrieds garage. She says: What about the red one? ( the 16v?? ) -she like the seats in that one!

Caroline's learning in mine, with the assumption that she'll pass her test in it!

We're moving somewhere without much public transport so she will be getting a car of her own in the fullness of time... on the understanding that as we already have a sensible modern car (the BX), she can have something interesting!

Liz has always driven my BXs, but I try to buy another car that she prefers to the BX, to avoid having to worry

Nat's going to be using my valver full time for the next few weeks, and then sparingly as family transport, as we're running it for 6 months as family-mobile and getting something different afterwards.

She's never had any problems in it!

My wife doesn't especially enjoy driving the BX (although she grudgingly admits that it is now faster than her Megane). I don't mind too much, although I did follow her back in it once and found it quite amusing the sheer amount of body roll it has - not something I've found noticeable from the driver's seat.

Ok, I'll stop worrying! My biggest problem is now she thinks I refer to her all the time as 'Mission Control'.
I'll post my next misgivings when my daughter wants to drive it but by then it'll be 42 years old ( unless of course we're all fizzing space dust by then!) :D

Good to hear the BX described by Caroline as 'Sensible and Modern!'

My missus has her very own BX, in fact its her 2nd BX.

She desperately wanted a Nissan Figaro. We drove to London to test drive one.
She quickly decided the BX was miles better! :D If only we could find a GTi auto as good as her TXS auto.

I think that is near on impossible Mr Fearn, unless you upgrade the 16 to EFi from a Gti or a 205 1.6GTi instead?
