Windscreen Washer + Roundabouts

Post by roody262 »

I've done a search but have been unable to find any information. Of the two BX's i've driven i've found that when going round a roundabout the washer fluid simply forces its way out of the spray bar and all over the screen.

Does anyone else have this problem (I'm guessing its a common problem although i could be wrong) and does anyone have any ideas how to stop it?

I thought about maybe swapping the front washer bottle to the other side as this could stop it.

BX washer tube,

Post by citro-geoff »

I have the same thing happening on mine too,and also on the CX when it had a tube.Changed the tube for a couple of on bonnet jets from my local factors. I am looking to mount a couple of Xantia ones below the scuttle cover when I take the TZD off the road to do the gearbox and straighten the front out!!Geoff

Ohhhhh, but thats no fun!

Has anyone tried moving the washer bottle to the other side? This should work assuming its the pressure from the bottle inself pushing the water through. It could however be just the water in the pipes that wants to set itself free.

I have toyed with the idea of fitting jets (1 or 2) in the grill at the bottom of the screen however I don't really want to damage the grill in any way.

if the system was originaly fitted with an inline one way valve and then removed when it colapsed, this used to happen to some of the citroens, i dont remember if the BX had them fitted from new

Most of the BXs I've ever owned have done this. In particular the current GTi. But then I do corner quickly given the conditions are appropriate. 8)

Move to France.

This has a lot of benefits - it will solve the problem on rounabouts but more importantly you'll have better weather and cheap wine!

Swopping the wiring and feed tube over to the N/S tank will indeed cure this, as will fitting the valve, which certainly both of mine had, but dont anymore.
Another option is to move the wiper so it parks on the drivers side (easy enough to do) or as said above, fit a pair of jets in the scuttle panel.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

You know I had forgotten about that problem.

Then again no roundabouts around here for me to test the problem out  Serious corners though and nope have not got the problem.

It seems that both my BXs have got the modification that Doc described, which means it works. Far out though actually something the kiwis modified in the BX that improves things without noticing.

Now to cure the dreaded blocked washer jet problem

Odd, I'd never heard of this problem. Cyril doesn't do this.

I got a replacement one way valve from Halfords to fit in the CX and fund that the thing prevented the jets from working (yes it was fitted the right way round!)

maybe the scotish water is not stronge enough to get past your one way valve, you will have to add some whisky AKI THE NOOOOO

I have found a fix (one that has worked for me anyway). Took a trip to halfords today for a one way valve, fitted and problem solved. Proof was in the vigorous testing (driving round a roundabout 2-3 times!). There was a slight drip but nothing close to the previous effect! At last the passengers side of the bx wont forever have water marks along it!

Slight negative in that it does restrict the water flow but this is minimal, and its possible it puts the pump under some extra strain.

Another washer related question : the rear washers don't work, the pump works when tested but when its plumbed in no water appears at the rear! My thoughts are the pipe must be blocked, anyone had any experience with this and would the pipe be easy to replace?

Try the blowing down & sucking technique before trying to replace, i can imagine that its going to be a right royal pain replacing something that goes from the front to the back of the car...
