Look's like is could be yours Justin :D
As stated a bit of a Nightmare logistically for you to get it back to the I.O.M. with no MOT on it, but when will you get the chance of another nice MK1 GT :!:
It's a bit bit like 'Matty' with the 16 valver he bought from Jersey, if you REALLY want something you have to go for it like he did, but still no update on how he got on with transporting it back etc. ?

Did you guys get any more pics yesterday?

I am really tempted but shouldn't be spending my money at the moment. Plus, out of my 3 possible tow cars - the Activa suspension is buggered and pissing LHM everywhere, the van has a catastrophic oil leak and the 4x4 is off the road. Oh yeah, there is the TGD auto but that has no chance. Fit the tow bar to the valver maybe???

Argghhh. stress!

Would be alot more interested if it was up and running! Now, where can I find a Mk1 steering lock with key.....

Tim, you should have taken the steering column off yours and taken it over. I have a spare Mk2 column for just this reason. Used it on 3 cars now, and it only takes 15 mins to swap them! Or do Mk2's fit Mk1's?

With regard to steering locks, in the past I've had a lot of luck with a hammer and big screwdriver

Sorry Justin....didn't get any more pics yesterday :(

Never thought abought a column swap, but it's certainly a good idea for other similar occasions!

As I said, the seller is in no real hurry to get rid....yet, so I guess there is time for someone to arrange the logistics!

I very much doubt the Mk1 and Mk2 steering columns are interchangeable but the lock itself will surely be. Hammer and screwdriver job!

Ignition barrel is such a piece of piss to change, I'm not sure what the fuss is about!

The mk2's is the same as an AX, can't see the mk1 being any different. You'd have to beat the one one out as you don't have the key, but otherwise it'd be mega-easy.

With Respect, Kitch.....it would felt a little disrespectful, to start butchering the owners car, when we had only come to view it!

I totally agree that the barrel swap is an easy enough job to do, once the vehicle has been bought! IIRC, the Mk1 barrels are a tad longer than Mk2 versions, and therefore fitting a Mk2 ignition lock would mean that the steering lock would no longer work correctly (but I could be wrong on this).

Also, as this is a rare Mk1 GT, and virtually original, my first thought was to think of a way to start her WITHOUT scrapping the original Mk1 lock barrel! Hence my idea of getting a key cut to match an easily-removeable door lock.

Alas, I am not now going to be her new owner, but at least there is quite a bit of info in this thread, for any prospective buyer!

She is indeed a bargain, at £200-300 asking price.

Just out of interest, did the owner still have the original key, though broken?

That would then fit the ignition SEEMPLES!!
*Or* you could order a new key from a Citroen dealer with the VIN number, they will prob'ly want sight of the V5 tho.
IIRC, the older records are kept by Key Services in Kent, who supply Citroen dealers (I sorted some out for a mid-80s CX and a Dyane not so many years ago!). It may take some persuading at a friendly Citroen dealer to get them to help. Unfortunately, I'm no longer in the position to do so :(
