Mk1 BX in red with proppa French yellow lights! this IS it!
Better pics some day..
Obviously, if you wanna actually drive on an unlit road at night you need the whites back but for show these are phat. All BXers must get these for rallies at least!!

eh? I didn't realise any changes to a car that's in yer own drive was an issue!Roverman wrote:I fear the forum Police may have something to say about this Graeme.
-seriously tho, these bulbs are totally legal - 'Selective Yellow' bulbs are AOK. Road lighting legislation states "all forward lighting must be white except where selective yellow bulbs are specified" or some such. I actually keep a copy of the legislation in the car after the cop stop incident 2 years ago.. WPC didn't know what she was talking about and it showed!
So you don't likeh the yellow lights?

In my view they suit the earlier BXs with an authentic un-messed about look. After all after about 1988/89 the yellow lights favoured in France started to disappear. In fact it was a requirement to have them up until just before (?) then, I think, if you were touring in France.
So, for a Mk. 1 - yellow headlights = Cool and retro.
On a Mk 2? = a slightly naff affectation.
(as opposed to fog lights which do benefit from being yellow in my opinion)

Thanks all.
Phil, I beleive it was as late as 1992 the the yellow bulbs were a legal requirement in France!
I think all BX types look good with these and they are incidently really good in fog and snow - no glare. They're pretty poor in the dark on dipped beam though..

This member of the forum police has them fitted to both of his cars, as do many of my mates.
And I agree with Graeme, in snow, fog, heavy rain they are excellent, although I haven't noticed the same complaint of them being a tad crap at night on dipped beam TBH... Are you actually getting 12V at the bulbs? A common problem on BX's...
I find them to be a much more relaxing light to drive to at night, even on dipped beam.
Also perfectly fine, although I'm guessing the GT still has illegal number plates.Roverman wrote:I think they look great and have some in my GT.
Still, each to their own.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

They arent illegal Doc, due to the age of the car the no plate legislation isnt so strict, the MOT tester says they are within tolerances and got his "book out" to make sure, as they are correctly size and correctly spaced hes happy to pass them and Ive driven by a few police cars on my travels and they havent had any problems.docchevron1472 wrote:[Also perfectly fine, although I'm guessing the GT still has illegal number plates.

hhmm, would this be the same tester that emssions tests other vehicles to get a pass for a different car?Roverman wrote: They arent illegal Doc, due to the age of the car the no plate legislation isnt so strict, the MOT tester says they are within tolerances and got his "book out" to make sure, as they are correctly size and correctly spaced hes happy to pass them and Ive driven by a few police cars on my travels and they havent had any problems.
Not sure exactley where he was looking in the MOT testers handbook, but mine is quite clear about type faces, and type face on your plates aint within what is classed as approved for road use as far as I can see..
