The front spheres look as thought they've been fitted with those valves which allows the spheres to be re-gassed?

I wondered what they were! The spheres were regassed last week - the mechanic said they hadn't gone past the halfway point beyond which the diaphragms are damaged. I can't say I noticed any difference in ride quality afterwards... I bowed to greater wisdom though as two independent garages said that the front needed doing..

The car goes back in tomorrow for a tune-up, possibly a thermostat too as it takes ages to warm up and then it's still cool. A new bit of exhaust.is needed too. As soon as that's all done I'm off for a proper test drive somewhere nice.

The suspension should be soft and supple, easy way to test is with the engine running try pushing the front end of the car down yourself and see how stiff it is. I had a similar problem with my 16TRS, the front end was very hard although new spheres were fitted, turned out to be very sticky struts, a liberal dosing of Grease cured that.

Thanks Tim - that's the test the mechanics did (were you sucking your teeth and tutting at the same time?)

I'll have a go when the car gets out of 'hospital'.

Rhapsody in blue.
Whats the best way to re-colour bumpers on a BX? I've used satin black spray cans and plastic primer on my MK2 astra.

For olympic blue, blue bumpers look much better than black in my opinion. What is the colour code/name for the bumpers on this one? Looks good!

Hi Tim - is EMD the code for just the bumpers or the coachwork paint too?

Cheers

Hi Steve thats the colour code for the body, not sure if they use a different one for the bumpers.

The bumpers on this type are not actually painted they were colour impregnated and they were never the exact same colour as the body leaving the cars two tone.

The trouble is my bumpers appear to have been hand painted at some time, some of which is peeling, so I'm caught betwixt wanting the car as original as possible, and wanting it to look good.

Having the bumpers colour-coded to the coachwork seems the best compromise to me...

Yes I agree with that, I'm sure colour coded would look much better than two tone. I did mine grey as I didn't like the two tone look and wanted to keep the TGD basic looking and I have my white TZD for the colour coded look.

Colour coding is great, mean syou can polish them the same as the body, but they do mark more if damaged, just make sure whoever does the painting does it properly or it will peel off.

If you ask the right bodyshops, they may be able to do the correct "textured" paint for these bumpers; can't remember how it worked, had some sort of plasticiser in it, but it dried with the matt textured finish as per the original impregnated bumpers. New replacements usually came in grey primer (apart from those with the black upper section...)
