an exhaust is nothing but some piping, a silencer box or two and a catalyst (if needed). I'd be off at an exhaust manufacturer for one - if I can get one for my 1959 messerschmitt, I could get one for a BX 4x4 in mild or stainless, or even carbon fibre or titanium!Roverman wrote:All 4x4 models suffer the same problems or failure, exhausts are bespoke and unobtainable!richardd1652 wrote:Do they all suffer 4x4 problems or is it mainly from abuse/towing etc?

The 4x4 saloon exhaust is decidedly simpler (imho) than the regular BX one, so it really shouldn't be an issue.
On the cog box side, i think this idea that towing causes the problem is a bit of a red herring. My understanding is that the damage is caused solely by aggressive driving, both hard acceleration, sloppy gear change, dumping the clutch and J-turns.
The flipside is that i've driven one that was very heavily abused yet never skipped a beat. I've also driven one that was absolutely imaculate, well maintained and looked after, low milleage and it didn't last very long at all.
If there was a solution to the cog box problem, and having seen pics of one in bits i believe there is, then i wouldn't be too worried about owning one.

It certainly would, but...A BX TD 4x4 estate would be a great piece of kit
would do very nicely too. I'm seriously taken by the idea unless Doc wants to snaffle it for Smiffy. I had a 2 litre Granada saloon with 106 bhp and that was a fine motor - and 300 Kg heavier !If its a 4x4 estate it will be the 1905cc carb fed petrol 105hp unit.
If you told me it was fitted with a Weber carb as well I'd have to increase my medication
Looking at the drawings on the Citroën TIS the rear diff looks standard enough - is it the transfer box / viscous coupling that go wrong ?
I went to Cambridge of course...
sadly only for 2 days upgrading some software for VAG

A diesel has more torque though doesn't it Cav and thats going to equal quicker damage despite slower performance.cavmad wrote:Couldn't you fit a diseasel engine to one though? Ok, it'd be comically slow (in n/a form at least) but would probably put less strain on the chocolate 4x4 system.

I'm sure I have a press release stating that a 4x4 break was made with a 1905 NA diesel. So sure I'd almost bet my breakfast on it.
I think a TD would be asking for trouble, although I still love the idea of a 16V 4x4 with Activa setup.
Since BX's seem to have dried up on the bay then I'll most likely go have a look at this 4x4 on Saturday after delivering 3/4 tonne of Lance rear axle to the farm. Assuming Smaiffy likes the idea that is!
It's certainly handy given that the Westons are 10 minutes away.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
