My new toy!

Post by Rich »

Right! Hello folks :D

May I introduce myself and my new toy (although a few of you will be thinking "not 'im again" because of my 20 year love affair with a certain 2cv Dolly and being active on the 2CVGB forum 8) )

Anyway! My name is Rich and I live in Northamptonshire and I have just taken the leap into BX ownership.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago off ebay and am pretty chuffed:

It's done 34000miles from new and comes with history and has been fairly well looked after it's whole life.

The interior is mint apart from a very small hole in the drivers seat base and a boot full of dog hairs (that I am still trying to get rid of):

I would love to say that my first two weeks of ownership have past without incident... but I can't! Basically the auto choke is bv&&£red.

On the evening that I collected it, I stopped for dinner on the way home and it refused to start again no matter what I tried. So my maiden voyage included some of this:

A fiddle with what ever this is:

And a lot of this:

So I have managed to find a manual choke conversion on ebay that is now safely under my ownership and the BX is off to my local Citroen guy Sunday evening to have it fitted... along with a bit of a check over before it enters daily use.

Oh dear, golden rule with buying old cars is to never stop until you are home  Hopefully it's an easily solved & cheap repair & then you can enjoy your car.

Thanks for the welcome Matthew and Tim :)

Here's a (not very serious) question.... Why do cars that are other wise very tidy suddenly look really tatty when you remove the wheel trims???

I have taken them off to spray the wheels which, conveniently but not surprisingly, are the same colour as 2CV wheels. I just happen to have a couple of rattle cans on the bench that were intended for the 2CV wheels.

Wheels make a car really, a clean tidy body can be let down by rusty wheels, even a set of el cheapo wheeltrims from halfords etc can make a huge difference. I alwasy fit new trims or get the alloys refurbed when possible on my motors as it really helps lift them.

PS: Glad to see you have a garage, looks like the old girls been quite sheltered!

Erm... Sorry! It ain't gonner be in it.

My 2cv's live in there... But those that know me on here will testify that I am just a tad fussy about my cars so it will be looked after. I also quite like waxoiling so no worries there.

Good luck with the new car. Saw the comment about dog hairs in the boot; if you have not already, buy a roll of packing tape and wrap @10" lengths around your hand it will pull the hairs out of the carpets, upholstery etc on contact, forget trying to hoover them.

Now that is a great tip - thanks :D

I love your car Rich - I have a low miles 14 in the same colour which I thought was good, but yours looks even better!!!! I'd seriously like your seats/interior - very nice indeed.

Good luck with the nasty old Solex - a few of us have been having Solex issues of late. Mine's getting a weber upgrade over the winter so I'm hoping for no more hot-starting issues next year (probably because it'll never go again afterwards  )
