the decades roll by.. at least some major milestones have been achieved with the F7 and its not just sitting there nagging at the back of your mind... sounds like you're committed to it.... in the long term

Can't quite beat that, but my 1966 Beetle's been off the road since 1984... was resprayed in 1985, then I went to university and it sat in my mum's garage, then my sister's garage. In the meantime I moved to France, and it only arrived here a couple of years back.citsncycles wrote: I wonder what's the longest time something has been awaiting restoration or being restored for? I'll kick off with my F7 which has been in it's current lock up since my Mum put it there in 1978!
Like Mulley, my other TZD estate's been off the road for nearly four years now, since the water pump failed and the exhaust fell off, both on the way back from the south of France. It's definitely going back on the road this year though. Should have my two-post lift working in the next week or so which should give me some inspiration (another project - bought it many years ago, finally installed it 18 months ago, but it's taken this long to sort the 3-phase supply to the barn!).

It's been off the road since before cameras were invented. Might have some engravings of it somewhere...Roverman wrote:Any pics of the beetle? just bought a '70 last month myself.
It's two tone, black wings and up to the door swage mark, red above. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

The Allard Palm Beach at my mum's house arrived there in 1972. My Berkeley B95 has been needing restored by me since 1990 and I am about to start restoring my messerschmitt after a decade in storage.

I had no idea what an Allard Palm Beach was - now I do. Only 80 made! Worth a few bob by the looks of it..

last time i spoke to Roger about this the guy was keeping all the mk1 stuff but the mk2 s were up for grabs, but from what Roger said they were good for spares only.
i also seem to remember him posting on here offering spares at some point. If i thought the gt or the estate were available i would hook the trailer up and be over there tomorrow

I think these BX will unfortunately integrate themselve into that field before the owner parts with them. The word 'hoarder' does spring to mind.
One of my favourite websites is Cars In Barns and there are multiple stories there of owners of old cars standing rotting in fields who won't sell and believe that one day they're going to restore them all!

I fear the same, they will just sit there until its too late, if he knew how rare they were maybe it would prompt some movement!toddao wrote:I think these BX will unfortunately integrate themselve into that field before the owner parts with them. The word 'hoarder' does spring to mind.

These cars came up for discussion at the GS/Ami rally, mainly because of the GS van there. Someone there said that they knew the guy slightly and they believed that many of those vehicles have now gone as they were beyond saving

Dropping in just to say that the owner does know the Mk1s are rare and that's why he's hanging on to them. The others have been well used in their lives and are probably spares only cars.
I have indeed sold the BX and bought an XM, but it doesn't mean i'll never own another.........
