I seem to recall someone having his eye on one recently and it was swept from under his feet :shock:

Hi, managed to get down the road to see this one today, so thought you all may like an update. :shock: It certainly looks far worse than in the photo & that must have been an old one. It was in the rain so this must have improved the look but even so the paint on door and roof trim had been rubbed through. I'll give a quick listing in no particular order of importance. Saw the car unlocked with owners permission while he was absent.

* No Hub Caps
* Rusty Steel Wheels
* Major LHM leak inside front wing in vicinity of reservoir
* (Owner had acknowledged a few LHM Leaks.)
* Engine very dirty with diesel & muck
* Headlight smashed in
* Bonnet Lock does not work
* No Radio & wiring hanging out
* Interior is dirty & smells of diesel etc.
* Rubbish, wellies and other strange storage inside car
* Some mould
* Passenger seat ripped at back and hanging down.
* Drivers electric mirror has been replaced with manual version
* Some perforating rust in a few places but nothing that appears too extensive. Could not check underneath.
* Rear washer jet has been pulled off
* Rear light clusters damaged
* Opened tailgate and found another diesel engine in there! :shock:

The car was on the grass so could not look under or see where the leaks were but his drive was well soiled with oil,LHM etc.
There are probably more problems to this than meet the eye so I have decided not to bid and leave it to those that are brave enough to put major time in and probably have a stock of "bits" that can reduce your costs.
Bidding ends Saturday (but as I said not for me) and I hope that my trip & info is a help to those that wish to pursue. :?

Can't believe that of you for a moment Cav. :) And if you were going to carry an engine then perhaps a board to sit it on rather than throw it straight on the car floor. :wink:

The junk inside was worse than that Renault 21 thing with the 101 Ebay questions. (Superb that, a mate printed it off to show around)

In essence you are buying a car in a photo with hubcaps and a headlight bulb popped out and what you are getting is one with no hubcaps and the headlight stoved in + worse. Ebay causes 'Caviat Emptor' to be racked up to scary proportions. :evil:

My citroen specialist says that changing the clutch is "a terrible job, terrible".

But then he says that about changing hubcaps too :D

After changing a clutch on my BX Meteor I can honestly say I would NOT look forward to doing a BX clutch again, everything that could go wrong did, we even stripped the thread on the engine mounting and could not get the stud out, so had to re-thread it on the car - seem to remember losing one of the nuts somewhere along the line and they were a weird thread - very fine, and even my Citroen garage didn't stock them....

Had to improvise with the little piece of steel that sits in the acorn cup near the adjustment bit of the clutch as this had been replaced with a section of old bolt - again citroen didn't sell the one item - you had to buy the whole assembly - thankfully the scrapyard helped me out - thats where we got the nut we needed from aswell.

The reason for the clutch change was due to not getting enough pressure to change gear, you'd depress the pedal and it not operate the clutch - within 2 months the NEW clutch I had put in was the same as the old one - there was alot of talk on here at the time about putting diesel clutches in petrol cars as the higher torque demands were meant to be beneficial. The clutch we bought was NOT a cheap one, the one we got was from GSF.

Due to the problems it still took me and my father in law 2 whole weekends to do the clutch.

As this was the wifes car that was it as far as she was concerned and the meteor went.....Still have a brand new breather pipe for the rocker box cover to filter, all packaged up in citroen bag - thats how quickly she wanted shot of it.

In my opinion (which doesn't count for much - ask my missus) a BX clutch is best done by a garage, if you can get it done cheap enough of course.

BX clutches are an aquired taste, first time I did one there were a few swear words around, but now I enjoy doing them, TDs can be a pain with all the extra pipes and that stupid header tank held in place by no less than 4 bolts.

On some cars everything can seem to go against you as though the car wants to die. Most of them Xantias. Whoops [-X

Now Xantia clutches are another matter. Only done one so far [-o< took me 17 hours. :o Unlike my XM, an absolute joy to do, got the feeling the car wanted to live. :lol:
